Why do we design suburbs in a way that I completely lose my sense of direction when its cloudy for a while? (My intended 12km run turned into a 23 km run when I thought I turned north, but it was actually south...) At least it's pretty out there

I'm getting the impression the October marathon in Toronto is a big thing for running groups. Or maybe the ads and emails I get just make it seem cult like?

It's things like this that almost convince me to start historical studies of intra-household allocation of resources - how many people make sure their spouse is covered in widowhood? (The CDN data is terrible, so I won't subject myself to this, but the curse of widowhood is real.)

Been getting into practical details of retirement planning and managing risks. Turns out a surviving dependent gets cut off from my health/dental pretty quickly. If that happens in 20 years, really no options available. So we have to make decisions on whether to keep/drop his own benefits now...

On my list of worst (domestic) policies of the year. No one really knows what the policy is, but if kids have parents who don't remember to call the school, their grade drops. Worse, the kids who don't have good home support will do even worse than before.

The news today is... a lot. So, here's what I'm thinking about: Marathon organizers should stop ranking people's results within gender and age categories, and instead use 1) height (short, average, tall) 2) perimenopausal and not perimenopausal. I think I'd do quite well in my category.
