I envy you - my two years in SA kick-started my life as a birder (several centuries ago [feels like])…

I didn’t realise they were backyard birds!

"Is this a beetle which I see before me, its head towards my beak? Come, let me clutch thee, thou snack before lunch". A Shakespearean Kestrel ponders its prey for today's theme of #LookingDown by @atlanticbirding.bsky.social for #BirdoftheDay #Birds #Photography #Macbeth

Oooh, never seen one of those before and now I've seen two. Double points for you for sure!

Nice picks again, Robert - thanks!

Today's themes for #BirdoftheDay from Alan via @robcrank68.bsky.social are either #brown or #blue plumage. This most elegant of Lapwings has only this to say: "Double points, please". #birds #photography

Since my last #caturday post the cat in question has been learning to read.

Yummy, huh? Maybe those birds know something we don’t…

Kind of you, Molly. I spent the day a) getting to Paris and b) getting caught up in a huge student protest at Bastille, which was enormous fun to photograph. I’ll be a big quiet for the next few days!

For today's #BirdoftheDay I've got a very proud Black Redstart showing off the grub he was about to swallow whole. For the #eating theme by @robcrank68.bsky.social #photography #birds

Oh, don’t worry I hadn’t intended to leave it up there - I just realised I’m such a birdoholic on here it seemed wrong to bring in my eccentric urban nonsense. I’ll carry on sharing that with a small but dedicated group of fellow obsessives elsewhere!

It's a square photo of a rectangular subject!

Thanks Audrey. I hadn't seen a Robin in the garden for months, then this one started turning up daily - and sticking around long enough for me to raise my camera!

I can't find the #Bluewater shot I had in mind for today's #BirdoftheDay theme by Alan via @robcrank68.bsky.social . Until I dig it out, here's an inquisitive Robin #perched on an antique French patio chair. #photography #birds
