Meet Cheeky, one of the peacocks who roams our neighbourhood. He thinks he lives with us. If I don't close the front door, he comes inside. He routinely shits on my doormat (the size of the turd matches the size of the bird 😭). My cats aren't sure what to make of him, but my kid loves chasing him 😂

I hate having a head cold. Not sick enough to be off. But sick enough for brain not to work very well. No break from momming. But also not the most patient parent now my toddler is recovered and is full of beans again while I still feel like death warmed up. Also, terrible sleep. Meh. Not a fan.

Went for a run because it's a quick way to exercise and I needed the fresh air... I can feel I'm coming down with my kid's cold. I HATE running. But if it's with a view like this, I can tolerate it a lot better.

Late afternoon light just touches the furthest trees along my path in the first and calls me towards the bend in the road where the clearing starts.

Heinous weekend. New house's pantry is infested with mites (I didn't know pantry mites existed until this week). All our brand new food had to be chucked. And poor kid has gastro. I've been non-stop cleaning... shelves, vomity sheets, toddler's angry bum. So good to finally sit down and enjoy this.

This may look like a photo of messy laundry hanging in a scraggly backyard, but it's a symbol of things accomplished this weekend. Doubled our drying space by putting up a new line, which meant chopping up some paving and an overgrown bush to sink the poles. Used the holes to plant my first veg 😊

The neglected backyard of our new home gets a little attention, with a new turquoise washing line (covered in a giant load of laundry, which had been pending) and winter veg seedlings planted around the posts.

First time both cats have voluntarily joined us in the lounge of our new house and settled in to chill for a bit. Major progress, given that Moz has basically been living under the bed for two weeks.

Back when The Bad Place was still The Mostly Bearable Place, I surprised those who followed me by announcing the birth of my son after not saying a word about my pregnancy. It was good fun. I miss that. Moved to Cape Town yesterday and it would've been another nice secret to drop. Ah well.

The green belt near our southern suburbs home, taken on one of our many visits as we renovated the house over two years and tried desperately to sell the Jhb property and resolve our never-ending issues with City of Joburg.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 712: Male writers: if you're uncomfortable writing women characters, then write them as men, and flip them in edit. Too many otherwise excellent male writers seem distracted by boobs, and forget that women have exactly the same range of character types as men do.

At OR Tambo International Airport and there's a massive power outage. Sitting in the lounge, which has no lights and also no water (because pumps are off) and you can spot the international travellers from a mile off. They're the only ones not just carrying on as usual, phone torch in hand 😂
