Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 16/10/2026I’m confused. Linus was basically saying that AI tools are another level of abstraction, just like assembler is to machine instructions. If you view computer programming as a series of abstractions, AI tools are just another one. 1100 0

Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Yes? Machine Learning is nothing new. But LLMs/attention based systems are something new; we didn’t have hardware to build or run them until recently. And no one is arguing that LLMs don’t have many problems. But they’re capable of things other ML systems simply aren’t. 000 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It’s what my 8 year old believes. I can believe Trump does as well. 000 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 05/10/2026This is almost certainly not true, at least modern LLMs. There isn’t enough definitely non-copyrighted material in a form you can use to train a viable LLM. That’s not to give the AI companies a pass; you don’t get to break the law because it’s stopping you from doing something. 160 0

Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I do want to defend some part of this. Anyone can be an ass, and it’s fine to block asses. The question is, are you blocking them from being an ass, or because they’re trans? I’m thinking here of Will Stancil and the trans folks he feuds with. We’d all be better off if they blocked each other. 270 0

Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 30/09/2026That”s Trump’s life story. There are almost no points in it where he wouldn’t have been better off if he’d done nothing. But he believes his own bullshit, that he’s a gifted businessman, and so has destroyed massive amounts of wealth. 180 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That whole thing is so baffling. Even if he did go to a Hawks game, what was the evidence that there was some sort of collusion between him and Fauni Willis? 0110 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Bond yields going up means that people expect inflation to increase, or that the entity in question is more likely to default. Right now, there are also a bunch of large companies also trying to sell bonds to fund AI, so there’s more competition for bond investors money. 010 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 29/09/2026So a higher bond yield can mean different things, but it means that people view the entity taking out the loan as being riskier, typically, than whatever the alternatives are. 110 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The bond yield is basically how much interest a company/government has to guarantee to return in order to get the loan/sell the bond. 020 0
Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 29/09/2026A bond is a loan that companies/governments take out. Unlike stocks, which are (sort of) a claim on future earnings, a bond is a “guaranteed” way of getting money back. They can be discharged in bankruptcy, but they have a higher priority than stock does. 120 0

Kevin @tam-lin.bsky.social · 25/09/2026They will need to keep Trump and the Republicans in the news, because otherwise the public has a short attention span. Prosecuting member after member of his cabinet and family would do that. Because there’s all sorts of stuff of stuff we’re not going to find out without a trial. 050 0
