Hell of a cross. Cody is in good form. The threat to his position (indicating the club didn't feel what he had been delivering was enough) has maybe helped him raise his game. Does better with competition.

I mentioned this in my reply to Lewis on twitter. Odd marques wasn't mentioned at all. Particularly because Newberry I think has been at the club a long time but only since Marques joined did we start signing these big foreign talents.

🚨Rio Ngumoha to @talkSPORT on Iraola: The gaffer has really been helpful. And all the coaching staff as well - I can't speak highly enough of them. But I'm enjoying it. I'm playing left-wing, right wing as well. So it's given me another tool to destroy defenders. #LFC

🚨Thomas Tuchel on Rio Ngumoha to @talksport: Rio was very impressive at this kind of age. He was explosive, he was adventurous, he was strong and one-on-ones like a true winger. We are excited about his potential and about his natural courage and adventurous style of play. #LFC

I'm not saying he should start every game, his load needs to be managed, but he should be starting some games on league and CL, not only domestic cups.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Going forward his game is only about running and crossing, and the crossing part hasn't worked well in his lfc career like it did in Bournemouth. He still lacks attacking variety as he's not a good progressive passer, I hope he learns to improve his combination football.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I can understand him not starting the season. Partly as it puts less pressure on him, partly to ease him in physically and partly because Iraola wants to learn about all midfield combinations and the others are more experienced. Tho now, on form, he should be getting more starts.

Kerkez worries me tbh. Mostly because he's not a smart player, and I like smart players. I loved his intensity, and I don't doubt he'll give everything, but I feel likes very simple minded. Doesn't read the game, situations or opponents well. Just runs around like a bull terrier.

I'm beginning to think we might need to sell him too if he doesn't improve. He's resting on his laurels. That big contract hasn't helped. He seems to lack hunger for the fight.

Wait. So we have a manager who wants to stay in Liverpool and work with the players rather than go on holiday every international break? I'm shocked.

Jacquet is the complete package. Phenomenal 1vs1, dominant in the air and duels, a fantastic progressing passer, and leadership traits (Captained multiple France youth teams). Even positionally he looks strong and ussually that's something CBs take time to learn, saved Virgil a few times.

Trey Nyoni shows every time he plays why I wanted him to start first game of the season and I still want him to start. Perhaps the gradual approach to introducing Trey keeps senior players happy, but he's more than earned a start imo.

Iraola has learnt not to trust Gravenberch defensively when protecting a lead which is why he payed him as a 10, but there's no law that Andoni is obligated to bring Grav on just because we have him a big new contract.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Wirtz probably had his worst performance of the season first half (improved a bit second half) and I wanted him subbed but he still did better than Gravenberch in the 10 because at least Flo always works hard and tries. Grav not sprinting back when we're defending a narrow lead bugged me.

He was poor. He doesn't see pictures quick enough, doesn't know passing options until after he receives the ball, doesn't break lines with passing and if pressed can be inaccurate. He's a powerful runner with a powerful shot, as a B2B midfielder he's good, but in a double pivot he's looked unsure.

Every time I see the penalty the more angry I get at Frimpong. He's not a smart defender, he doesn't think enough about his position, his role, what he's needed to do when. He might be useful as a late sub, if we need an overlapping FB but he can't be starting even without Bradley fit.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Trey Nyoni with a solid cameo for Liverpool: - 18/20 passes completed - 2/3 ground duels won - 2 tackles - 2 recoveries - 1 interception Not bad in about 14 minutes 💪

Barcola clearly improves us on either side, but if we don't fix the fullback and midfield issues it's no use having 3 £100m+ players - they won't get the ball and we'll still concede a lot.

Hit my 'post limit' on twitter (didn't realise they even added a post limit) so I'm on here to moan about the game. There were some positives (Jacquet/Araujo did well, Munoz 2nd half, Nyoni when coming on) but overall a disappointing performance and result.

Our fullbacks are performing as backup level fullbacks at best. That Liverpool have shown no interest in improving these positions is dissapointing. Brentford have better fullbacks than Liverpool in Diouf and Kayode.

It’s a pity Macca is so slow, because he’s the only midfielder (along with Nyoni) who I actually trust to play like they’re in a pivot. The others just do what they want, when they want, without a care in the world about what’s around them.

I'd also love this option in the UK, we used to have. It's actually much better. Modern commentators talk too much and make it about themselves too often. Previously commentators knew that they were there as support. Darren Fletcher on TNT is the worst, always giving his opinions.

Isak doesn't worry me so much, service to him worries me more. He'll come good. Wirtz is the one who needs to add more to his game to impose himself. The mgr taking him off with 30mins to go (although I disagreed with that choice) suggests Iraola also wants more from him.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
And on the pen I'm sure he would've wanted to be on pens but the manager likely decided who the taker was beforehand. I absolutely do not want any player acting the child wanting to take it. Rafa used to change pen takers based on form (eg Alonso took it in Istanbul as Stevie had recently missed)

If I may join in here. While I agree in general on Wirtz and Isak in this game, I don't agree that they're the same. I've seen Isak bully Gabriel and Saliba when he was at Newcastle. He even got the better of vvd in duels. He had little service today, his pressing is more the development need.

Yeah, the whole starting midfield 3 are like that.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
It happened last season vs multiple players, he couldn't beat/catch anyone in a race but he partly compensates for it by how aggressive he is.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
It's going to sound silly but I said it last season. I'd send Wirtz to kickboxing classes. He's such a talented player but he fears duels and loses them constantly or just watches and doesn't engage when he should.

Szoboszlai always shoots in the same position. But the only way you can stop it is if you do what that keeper did in world cup, walk over to the right quickly rather than not diving from the middle.
020
Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Spot on. But if we don't buy we can't have a Gravenberch & Szoboszlai midfield two - they both vacate constantly and leave no-one in midfield!!! Nyoni or Macca need to start.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Jammy draw. Gravenberch and Szoboszlai does not works as a double pivot. Both fullbacks very poor: Kerkez really slow and doesn't pass forwards. Frimpong has pace but weak in duels - he's neither a RB or RW. Jacquet is a great signing. Munoz a better option on right than Rio at present.

I like him. He's too good for U21 tbh, but coming straight from Senegal I think potential loan clubs don't know him well, but after bossing it first half of season he'll have better quality loan opportunities.
110
Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
There'll be an interesting divergence in development of Ndukwe and Ndiaye. Ndiaye's passing is already at a more progressive level than Ndukwe, and playing in U21 with less pressure on ball he'll likely develop it even further. But he won't have the defensive challenges that Ndukwe will face.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
I'm feeling pretty confident for our opener vs Newcastle. Arguably more confident than I ussually am going to Saint James which is a tough away ground. Newcastle losing key players and us having plenty of quality fit players with Iraola's league experience gives me belief.
060
Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Ndukwe's loan seems at a perfect club tbh. A challenging league where he'll face strong forwards and attacking play, but a smaller team that needed to refresh CB position so should get games. Read he might even be eligible for a visa exclusion spot in January and there's a recall option if needed.

Tail end of last season in not sure my content would've suited bluesky tbh lol. I was very negative towards Slot and I wasn't holding back. I'm calmer and happier now with Iraola in charge wanting to play front foot football.

Hull's new keeper Tzolakis seems a pretty good signing. Very good handling, comes for crosses, doesn't take silly risks in possession but also calm if he does want to pass it out. Not sure about shot stopping ability as only had a couple of average shots to save.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
There's something to be said for familiarity. The connections and understanding between players is just there already so a team like Brentford, without much change, have been much better than high spending much fancied Spurs at the start of this game.

Red @taintlessred.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Lampard actually spoke before the game that his players need to adapt and not play out from back so much and take risks like they can in Championship, but I think his players are maybe not yet ready to change. Awonyi is a bit new, not sure how much training he has had.
