The 3-4-3 Amorim system provides time on the ball in deeper positions and draws centre backs out of the defensive line. Hojlund—this is his game. The system is perfect for him; he should make these runs all day.

Amorim: "I am improving the way I should play Casemiro. I am not putting Casemiro pressing really high, our team is well connected, that is helping Casemiro, in short space he can understand where the ball is going. I understand better the characteristic of the players."

Inter wing-backs jump for more often than the centre-backs.

The last one on Man Utd (for now) This tactical camera gives an image of how the 3-4-3 can be exploited. They can't get pressure on the ball. Zirkzee has a 3v1, including the GK. If anyone jumps, Brighton can find an easy pass out.

The build-up to the winning goal. The attacking transition has been a huge strength of Forest's play this season. Control it, and it takes a huge strength away. Liverpool have the firepower to sacrifice their full-backs and ensure they take care of the Forest wingers in the attacking phase

010

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 14/01/2025

At Anfield, from 60 minutes, Forest had numerous counter-attacking opportunities. Nuno had sucked Liverpool into attacking with their full-backs with conservative, wide players, and then the subs (Elanga, Hudson-Odoi) changed the dynamic.

110

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 14/01/2025

Expect to see the Liverpool full-backs in a more conservative role. Slot won't be caught out like this again.

100

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 14/01/2025

Forest went to Anfield and kept the dangerous counter-attacking wide players on the bench until the 60th min. As the game opened up, they took full advantage. Liverpool need to control these spaces when in possession. Forest are waiting to spring as soon as they win it back.

I like Ugarte. He has a brilliant understanding of protecting that central space. His decision-making on when to press and when to protect is excellent, and if he makes the wrong decision, he's very quick to recover.

Gravenberch plays the ‘six’ like he’s been in there for years. Incredible this season. On and off the ball. You can’t win anything without an excellent ‘six’. A player who smells danger and prevents questions for the back four while also being able to build and create attacks

This leads to a Partey shot where Jesus follows in to score. It's a goal Arsenal don't often score, creating in the chaos.

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 03/01/2025

Brentford won possession three times from this situation, but the short counter-pressing spaces that Arsenal have created gives no chance of a Brentford counter-attack

100

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 03/01/2025

This was the case for the first goal. Brentford can easily end up in a 7-3 or 8-2 formation when the 4-4-2 lines are so compact.

100

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 03/01/2025

Brentford played with the most compact 4-4-2 low block you will see all season. The problem with it against top teams is that there is no escape. Want to play short passes to link before springing the counter attack? Arsenal will steal the ball back immediately. Image

130

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 01/01/2025

I think so. Takes time to build that mentality of being aggressive out of the defensive line.

000

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 30/12/2024

The Amorim system requires centre-backs to step out and mark. This is one of multiple examples where the back three mark no players or one This leaves them outnumbered in central midfield and ultimately leaves the centre-backs to solve more problems close to goal More tomorrow

I wouldn't call them toothless. They are certainly missing another world-class player at the top of the pitch.

Slot's narrow structure as Liverpool look to create their attack - Minimises counter-attacking threat - Allows Trent time on the ball facing the opponent's goal - Allows access to wide players for 1v1's - Create a +1 on the opponents defensive line (against a back four)

Big nights ahead in the League Cup. Newcastle and Spurs are well overdue a trophy and will see this as their best chance. Arsenal and Arteta have some external pressure to win a trophy, especially with the points gap to the top of the league.

000

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 15/12/2024

That's as bad a half as I have seen from a PL team without the ball. Even when Southampton changed to five at the back, they didn't get near Spurs players anywhere on the pitch.

Chelsea with the 3-3-1-3 against a four man midfield. No double pivot tonight. Neto and Guiu having fun out there.

020

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 10/12/2024

Man United will struggle to sell Rashford. His wages and, I would imagine, the expected fee won’t be correlated with performances. With little resale value, Man United will have to take a hit. Or maybe this could be a wake up call for Rashford. He needs to show that hunger again.

It opens up the half-space if they get the Palace midfield two on the same vertical line. Same horizontal line? Find KDB between the lines.

000

Tactx @tactx.bsky.social · 07/12/2024

Why do teams build with the 3-1-6 as opposed to the 3-2-5? It's usually done against teams who play two centre midfield players. City doing it against Palace (3-4-3) with Gundo and KDB as the 1-1.
