PS: I keep hearing that this is expensive. It really isn’t. As a % of construction costs it doesn’t exceed a few % at most. There are plenty of climate adaptation measures that deliver significantly less for more cost.

I voted for the greens in my Bezirk, and I welcome every bit of begrünung, but it's one of the most harmful myths that this is anywhere close to enough! Climate adaptation means air conditioning as well. To illustrate this, I plotted the maximum possible greening effect: Margareten vs Wienerwald.

The last 7 days of air temperature between three 1km Geosphere INCA zones showing that Lobau or Lainzer tiergarten is only a few degrees cooler than the inner city.

Politicians really need to be talking about active cooling because passive measures will not lower temperatures below 30C for an ever increasing part of the year. I want to hear the specific timetables for equipping ALL schools, hospitals, retirement homes with AC within the next 5-10 years.

If you turn the entire inner city into a forest, you get a few degrees of difference. This means air conditioning is mandatory unless people want to have over 30C in schools, hospitals, retirement homes and no amount of greening, shutters, UV protection etc will change this.
