One day, there will be an end to police violating our young people in life and death.
One day, there will be an end to police violating our young people in life and death.
The far right do not care about the lives of young people. They care about opportunities to be racist. Their approach, as always, is to weaponise tragedies surrounding children and young people to mobilise hatred, and ignore the much needed justice fights that children and young people require of us long term.
Those who actually care about young people have long fought for their justice in communities. That justice may be fights to improve education systems, to end police violence, to end child poverty, to ensure children live in safe housing, to address children's worsening mental health, and so on.
And those who fight for young people who are most oppressed - often racialised young people across the board - from the position of genuinely caring for young people's collective justice, by default fight for all young people. Because the improvement in the lives of those most oppressed, justice in their lives, liberation in their lives, would mean every young person's life has improved. When we fight for young people experiencing racist oppression, particularly by the state, we never fight to make specific young people's live's better or worse than others.
That is the narrative and work of fascists. It is what we of course now see emerging from from their tired playbook following the devastating death of a young person, whose life was met with the state violence that racialised communities have long been fighting against.
We are thinking of Henry Nowak and his loved ones. We hope they find the incredible support and justice networks we know exist, who hold families with these shared experiences of state violence. And we hope one day, there will be an end to police violating our young people in life and death.

Guided by Dr. Rawan Hassan and supported by Amberlee Green, the afternoon will centre on holistic wellbeing for the Black Diaspora through:

Breathwork and somatic practice
Gentle yin yoga and guided meditation
A calming herbal tea ceremony
Journaling and collective reflection
We invite you to come as you are—to slow down, release, and replenish in community.

This weekend's far right marches will have been triggering and traumatising for many Black and Global Majority people. In times like these we need to hold our communities close and take care of each other.
white text on green background

Reads: Many Black and Global Majority people are afraid and feeling anxious. Our sense of safety has been rocked by this weekend’s far right marches.

We’re seeing the rise of the far right, and their rhetoric increasingly becoming mainstream. We are seeing policing treat pro-Palestinian protesters more harshly than far right racist protestors. And existing as a Black person or a person of colour in this reality is in itself traumatising.white text on a green background

Reads: These events have a detrimental impact on our mental health. But the systems as they exist are not prepared to help Black and Global majority people process the trauma of systemic racism.

Hold your communities close, talk to each other to help heal the pain, and organise spaces for healing. We move through spaces where sharing our experiences and feelings around racism is dangerous, so find those spaces where you can be yourself. White text on a green background.

Reads: We will be sharing resources and community spaces in our stories.

Tell us in the comments what you are doing to take care of yourself during these difficult times.

Almas (she/her). I’m Almas (she/her) and I’m an activist based in Bristol. Increasingly I am thinking about the sociopolitical context of distress, the importance of social justice in healing and what radical, abolitionist care could look like. I am part of the Synergi funded group Abolitionist Healing Collective.
Through this group, and more generally in my work, I like to think about how decolonising and abolition are central to understanding our own and others’ distress and can help us build anti-oppressive communities of care.
