It's not as bad as Symphonia on Gamecube versus every other platform it was released on, far from it. I just think it could've been better. And again, there's a lot of great things about the remaster. Skits being included in an official localization is wonderful, it adds so much charm...

I'm liking a lot of things added to the Tales of Eternia remaster. But the visuals are definitely a downgrade for me. So much of the image is just cropped out in the remaster, and it makes the pixel art look worse than it actually is because of the zoomed in camera and the forced 16:9

A screenshot of Tales of Eternia on PS1, which offers more detail and visuals to the screen without it looking as crunchy because of the resolution and camera.

A screenshot of Tales of Eternia Remastered on Steam, which is based on the PSP's version resolution and screensize, which leads to a noticeably more crunchy look when it comes to the pixels, and less overall real-estate when it comes to what you can see on a given screen.

It's probably pretty normal to go "Man I must've been a good girl lately..." in response to seeing really solid IVs on your Pokemon, right?

while i enjoy the final fantasy resonance wine conceptually i do think it is but a pale shadow of the way final fantasy used to move, where lightning was modelling menswear for prada from the stately manor in valhalla where she conspired to kill her sister

I'm quitting 12 hours in, I just couldn't have fun. Maybe I'll watch a cutscene compilation and try Xenosaga 2 and 3 but given how the gameplay felt like something the team didn't even want to work on, I don't know if I want to give Xenosaga anymore chances.

000

Captain Carol @symphocarol.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

When the cutscenes are playing, it's not a bad time. When the game is playing it's just so boring, to the point that I feel the cold temperatures so much more acutely than I normally do. At least Metal Gear Solid had the decency to be a fun video game you'd want to replay.

000

Captain Carol @symphocarol.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

I love no boss themes, no dungeon music tracks, a battle system that forces battles to sometimes take 5+ minutes, an insane lack of guidance with the upgrade system, multiple parts of the game where you run around and do nothing but activate cutscenes for over an hour with awful direction.

Captain Carol @symphocarol.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

The drop in gameplay quality going from Xenogears to Xenosaga is actually insane.
