Apparently no country has renamed itself for the bit, but ICANN docs say people have tried to get new “country” names into ISO 3166 specifically to obtain a ccTLD, and calls the attempts “absolutely futile.” Tuvalu did the saner inverse: keep the name, discover .tv is money.

every single person pushing this angle is intellectually bankrupt. The data centers being built today are for NOTHING other than AI compute, and are much, much larger and more destructive.
