I just visited my family in semi-rural MI. Many Trump signs from 2024 were replaced with an anti-datacenter signs. I didn't see a single Rogers sign the entire week I was there. Al-Sayed signs even deep in the sticks. It was unusual.

I was her manager at the time. She'd use our 1:1s to grill me about her own code. She'd always bring a PR on which she wanted feedback. I think she could feel when code could be better, but wasn't always sure how. She relentlessly sought feedback.

I worked with a very talented junior programmer a few years ago. Me, talking to her about her C code: "ah, I like how you used a linked list here" Her: "a what?" Turns out she had little formal training with programming or C, but regularly invented the data structures many of us were taught.

when i was ~12, i was fishing at a pond near my house at dusk. i cast my line and somehow managed to entangle a bat over the pond. had to real him in and figure out how to de-tangle a freaked out wet bat.

i get why folks want this to be a “bsky uses ai” problem and it could be, also could be the upstream provider using ai! downtime happened long before ai though and i think the real problem is that <5 companies control how we get things and keep things online
