I know that usually if you hang around long enough you "get it" eventually, but here's some quick explainers about different types of posts going around for art. A lot of new people reply to art trains or halt the train by not copying text, so here's the difference!

Art train vs art share for now Bluesky users with visual aids. The left has an "art train" post that says "You are “putting a train car” on the train. Do not reply. Instead, use the quote repost to keep the train moving! Copy the last person’s text." The center reads "You are “putting a train car” on the train. Do not reply. Instead, use the quote repost to keep the train moving! Copy the last person’s text. TAG SOMEONE if the train calls for it or else you will end the train! “Tag yourself if you want” won’t cut it." the last reads "You are sharing your art. Following the rules of the art share (read them all!), reply with your art and comment/repost other’s art." It gives notes in the posts as well such as noting similar text for the art train, and then the specific set of rules for an art train with tags and art share.

We have very thankfully been able to cover her whole bill thanks to all of you, it is so much appreciated as this extra help in an emergency leaves the bulk of our medical funds for the regular vet care of our cats and TNRs.

Our estimate for this very fun excursion is between $3-5k. As always, if you would like to help us offset this cost to help us cushion the blow to our medical fund right at the start of the year, you can find all the ways you can help at linktr.ee/crits4cats

People should probably learn the difference between “plot holes” and “things I didn’t like” or “things the franchise plans to explain in the future” or “things film makers didn’t think they needed to explicitly explain because they thought you had critical thinking skills”.

this is gonna get buried by whatever

This is going to get buried but I wanna skip past a lot of the BS because I feel like people are going about this all wrong.

What do you like about gaming?

Question one, right there, more important than anything else. Because if you like for example, say, smooth, frictionless AAA experiences, there isn't going to be much for you. But if you say, I don't know, like indie platformers... well, what influenced them? Check that out. Do you like... From Software games? Go check out their old catalog. It'll all be rough as hell to get into, but the value is there, if you want it, with or without nostalgia. Kings Field 2 is one of my favorite games and I didn't even know it existed when I owned a PS1. Even if I did know it existed, younger me would have hated it.

You like stories and characters? That's going to be harder. Everyone is gonna tell you stuff like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, but the tone of those old RPGs are a lot lighter (they're cool outside of nostalgia, but they're comparatively scant on characterization). That might better be suited by something like Planescape Torment.

Do you like WEIRD THINGS? like god, just look almost anywhere. I play rom roulette all the time and found so much weird stuff I didn't know exist.

You need to know what you like before you can answer this question. You can try and get into old cinema or read old books by reading best of lists, and a lot of those entries are on those lists for a reason, but if they don't align with your taste it won't matter. The idea of this perfect canon of media people must love is fake. You need to start with what you know you like and work back from there. If you're answer to that is "idk, I like good games", then you got a lot to figure out.

Also with ALL old media, comfort with the age of the material is a muscle you exercise. If you find things you like because you're more taste-aligned with you, you'll eventually build up an ability to enjoy things you find "annoying" right now, assuming …

It's frustrating to see a reddit page trying to talk about getting into old retro games "without nostalgia" and the question is "what are games that actually hold up", followed by tons of suggestions, with no one stopping to ask "What do you actually like????"
