This lovely Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago! Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as ‘millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today! British Museum 📷 me #Archaeology
Hemispherical mosaic glass bowl viewed from above. It measures 13.2 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in height. The glass is composed of sections of star patterned cane in blue, purple (looks black in my photo), and green, which appear as a floral pattern. The bowl has a black and white spiral rim. Made in the eastern Mediterranean about 200-100 BC. The bowl has been reconstructed and blue glass fragments which do not belong to this vessel have been used to fill missing areas.

Excited for the first #FindsFriday now more PAS people are here. This popular type of late 17th/ #18thcentury teaspoon had a twisted stem. Lots break at the weak point. Someone in Sussex looked at the broken piece and had an idea. They trimmed and incised it to make a little face, just for fun. 🏺🗃
Three views, front, side and back with scale. The end of a spoon handle with a large knop at the tip on a rounded end which then gradually narrows to an irregular break. The sides have been cut in to make a circular face above shoulders.
The concave front has been incised with a design, emphasised by dirt in the indents. The scratches make a face with lines on the shoulders.
