This is spot on to what I feel (YMMV) is too prevalent. The litanies of niche litmus tests are bullshit. They divide, don't unify. They're why people stay home vs voting for the "closest fit" candidates, fucking themselves and the test of us.

Mostly Firenze current streets, but one older one behind plexiglass from those who built the Cappelle Medicee. It's a short distance from the OG frescoes to current art. #streetart
Mostly black + white sketch, woman in lower left corner, ladder-like image rises to the right with a red heart near the top, a small man above that, and the word "EXIT" at the top. on a smooth cream-colored wall with exposed grey brick to either side.

@darthbluesky.bsky.social Look at this very good dog on my train this morning!
A light brown, short-hair mid-sized hound sits on a blue train seat. Her chin is resting on the armrest and her eyes are mostly closed. Also, her ear flaps look velvety.

The analytics for #TheUnknownRace2026 are world-class. We need more of this for ultra events. [go to the Analytics link from this landing page]. They even have "build your own" charts! www.followmychallenge.com/live/turno4/...
Stopped time chart for solo (non-pairs) riders. One row per rider, with orange bits marking when and for how long they stopped since race start time. Not surprisingly, Fascinating difference between the first 3 finishers.

All too brief, the 2026 #BM100 has ended with no finishers. What a ride, with all credit to @keithdunn.bsky.social for the updates and commentary. Also, it's a fun community that comes together here once a year for this.

I cannot believe that I missed the first 13 hours of the #BM100. That's what I get for being riveted to the last hours of the Atlas Mountain Race. At least this won't overlap with the 2026 #ITIAlaska

Who's next? A great piece by Conor Friersdorf (paywalled, subscribe if you can) www.theatlantic.com/internationa...
War-weary voters who thought it was enough to elect a president who called the Iraq War “a stupid thing” and promised an “America First” foreign policy can now see for themselves that they were wrong. In 2026, as ever, only Congress can stop endless wars of choice. And if Trump faces no consequences for this one, he may well start another.

So, if I had waited in that outside line for the inside line, would I have been able to snag a loaf of their rosemary olive bread? I bet not. Time to rethink what to have with the minestrone soup tonight.
Old-school bakery on a street corner with a blue and white sign and blue awning. The huddled mass of people under the awning are clutching tickets, hoping their number will eventually be called so they can join the scrum inside. I'm not in the line.

Once again, it's time for the Thanksgiving cactus to bloom. Just once, ya'd think it'd wait for its namesake holiday, but, no.
A small Christmas cactus plant in a clay pot sits near a window. It's only mid-November, yet the reddish blossoms are in full bloom, belying the plant's common name. Is it defective or is it an overachiever?

Who came up with the ad campaign for PWC? This stuff is the worst possible consultant-speak and seems like a Hail Mary attempt at relevance. Where #McKinsey goes, PwC may follow.
Image 1: background image is two hip-casual consultant types (suit and sneakers) walking along an urban waterfront. Text: "We build for now and next so you can solve for what's next before it's now. Create your next with PwC"Image 2: background image is of three consultant types standing on sand(?!!?) with a city skyline. Text: "We bring the business why and the tech how so you can drive your company to the leading edge. Create your next with PwC"

@athenaaktipis.bsky.social gets a lot right in "A Field Guide to the Apocalypse." This quote hits home after countless problems dealing with our (well-rated) insurer. Strongly recommend the book, which I picked up on a whim @harvardbookstore.bsky.social

all the drama of the Trump administration is designed to distract us from: (a) the real stuff happening in our world; and (b) from the ways the Trump admin is making our world more hostile to humanity.

I haven't fact-checked, but these are literally the stories that prove national investment in a wide range of research benefits all of society, including the economy. Unfortunately, the capitalists think private sector will just do this, successfully, on its own.

Neighbor cat got high on nip in our garden today and then asked for belly rubs. I know better - belly touches lead to serious risk of massive bloodshed. He's a good boy, though.
Classic orange tabby with white front showing off his chest and belly, asking for rubs. Might be friend-shaped, but I know better and I have the scars to prove it.

Saw some sections of the Erie Canal today. Hard to imagine what it was like in its heyday, seeing how nature has taken it back.
Silvery heron in profile wading in green-tinged wetlands and surrounded by vibrant plant life.Algae covered water with branches sticking up out of it. Turtles, with the same uniform green on their backs, are hanging out on the branches.
