Understood! I must have walked it in winter, but I try to not remember those days (snow! ice!).

I carried my cello (in its soft sided case) on my bicycle. I cringe every time I think about that risk. Of course we also didn't wear helmets back then. In retrospect, I should've just done choir!

This is spot on to what I feel (YMMV) is too prevalent. The litanies of niche litmus tests are bullshit. They divide, don't unify. They're why people stay home vs voting for the "closest fit" candidates, fucking themselves and the test of us.

Anger by proxy. I just don't get how people allowed themselves to be sucked into the "culture wars"

Thank you for this. At this point, these "standards* drive me away from affiliating with things like No Kings and Indivisibles.

ha! I'm old enough to say that my student ID in university was my ssn, plus various other places. You had to write it on checks at the grocery store, too, maybe? It's still wild to imagine that was the thing. But, as a result I will always know it, even if I don't know my zip code.

The current deal isn't about the art at all. It's about someone demonstrating sound principles. Maybe we could just leave it at that?

just guessing here, but it'd reduce injuries to vets/techs if they're working with a fractious cat, and better than trying to wrap the cat in a towel.

fascinating, tho. there were zero questions about whether a mid-word or end-of-word "r" is pronounced as an "r" or an "ah," which would both point to boston and parts of maine.

I've removed all evidence of a southeastern wisconsin upbringing from my language. Of course, I've been in new england for about 2/3 of my life now, barring a few years in SF.

I fully expect to hear about a burrito inside a burger soon. Or, does he go the other way and chop up a burger and roll it inside a burrito - bun and everything?

If you get "stuff" done, people will remember and always turn to you for those things. Ask me how I know - it's a mixed blessing? Also, good on ya for not being modest about being very good at your job.

I was a PC user at work when that was first a thing, with 8 character filename limits. Oh, how I peeved in '95 about people in our Mac-based side of my company for their long filenames. I will never forget what it was like to guess bc i couldn't see the full name.

I'm late to the party on this, but the end of the banister on those ever-so-dangerous stairs also looks bad. Is that raw metal? Even if it were wood, I'd surely shred my hand on the sharp-looking end of it.

We're smitten with reliquaries and are trying to figure out how to get back a finger bone to put in one. The cadaver lab that gets our (post-harvest) remains probably won't offer that service, tho. May have to dock a finger while we're still alive?

The passing of a legend. Abdullah Ibrahim stood out in his music **and his work against apartheid in South Africa.** Too many obits ignore the anti-apartheid work, but IMO it's inseparable from his existence and his music. www.reuters.com/world/africa...

the price for someone to dethatch our tiny yard makes this very appealing...tools I didn't know I could own! And yes, no gas, no oil, no sparkplugs, no smell, and basically no maintenance.

I have you to thank for our EGO tools. We didn't keep our EGO snowblower when we left Maine. Looking at their "snow shovel thrower" to ease the shoveling but storable in our tiny city garage. Also - they have a dethatcher!!! OMG!!!

Reading these comments is a fabulous reminder that we're more than the sum of our parts. I'm actually smiling and a little wistful about the parts of the US I haven't(yet) explored.

We dog/house-sat a Jack Russell this week. She'd whine until we threw the tennis ball (in the house - too buggy out). Don't get me started on the 4am "bored" barks. She irrevocably ended any lowkey thoughts about having a dog: we're clearly not cut out for it.
