Yesterday, a beautiful orange/yellow Sassafras leaf posed for a photo. 🌱🌳
On a sunny day in the woods, a bright yellow/orange sassafras leaf stands out among all other green leaves. The leaf hangs with three-lobes pointing down.

Milwaukee Public Schools cancelled day two of the school year for heat. 66,000 students. ~25% of classrooms have AC. Wisconsin's own heat vulnerability index couldn't include air conditioning as a variable. The data didn't exist. 91% students of color. 83% economically disadvantaged.

Current global sea-surface temperatures are 6.08 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 mean, or about 1-in-1,700,000,000 (1-in-1.7 billion), assuming a normal distribution and no climate change. The "new normal" means there is "no normal" anymore.

If human creativity weren't a threat to capital then capital wouldn't be threatening human creativity. If mutual care and cooperation weren't a threat to systems of domination, then systems of domination wouldn't be trying to undermine our relationships with each other.

Utah's Red Castle reflecting all her splendor at sunset. What a gift!
A large brownish-red rocky mountain positioned under puffy white and gray clouds in a blue sky; all reflected in the still water of a lake. Pine trees line the distant shore of the lake and are also reflected in the water. A few colorful tents are visible to the right.

Garden update: Sad my beautiful onions I germinated from seed likely fell victim to the onion root or seedcorn maggot. Thankfully garlic is doing well and undamaged.
Two images. Top with young onion on dark soil with outer skin pulled back. Small brown maggot between layers of skin. A few roots in dark soil. Bottom with young damaged onion just pulled out of wet soil.

Today's collection of native plants. 🌱
Collection of tan, light brown, and dark brown winter seed heads with some small green needled branches interspersed and one lonely thin whitish/purple vine arching up and to the right. Arrangement casts its shadow on a light tan wall and includes the following (my best guess):
Broom Sedge - Andropogon virginicus
Mexican sunflower - Tithonia rotundifolia
Mountain Mint - Pycnanthemum virginianum
Black Eyed Susan - Rudbeckia hirta
Eastern Redcedar - Juniperus virginiana
Goldenrod - Solidago ?
Black Raspberry - Rubus occidentalis

Great 🧵! So many ways to tame the "overwhelm." Reduce, reuse (create from cast-offs), compost to heal/enrich soil, grow fresh produce to nurture your soul and share with others, monitor consumption, value renewable energy and community, connect with and learn from all, etc. etc.
