🧵 Excited to share our new work in ACS Sensors. Can we measure what a molecule is doing AND the chemical environment it is doing it in? We developed a ¹⁹F activity-based barcoding approach to measure pH + analyte reactivity using NMR/MRI simultaneously. 🧪🧲 pubs.acs.org/ascefj/artic...

19F Activity-Based Barcoding Enables Simultaneous Measurement of pH and Analyte Reactivity
AbstractActivity-based sensing (ABS) probes are designed to report on analyte activity, but their readouts are often influenced by local pH. Because both p

It’s not unknown that tumors have a BIG sweet tooth but can that metabolic dependency be exploited for therapy? In this work, we show GLUT1-targeted glucose-decorated gold nanorods show higher selective tumor uptake and improved photothermal therapy! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

Metabolic Trojan Horse: Multivalent Glucose Ligand Modified Near-Infrared-Absorbing Gold Nanorods for Targeted Photothermal Therapy
Nanoparticle-based photothermal therapy (PTT) provides localized tumor ablation but remains limited by off-target accumulation and the need for high systemic doses. To address these challenges, we dev...

Worked on this paper with Joe out in ACS Chemical Biology. We developed and evaluated AAP, an ALDH1A1 activated photosensitizer that stays OFF until it encounters ALDH1A1 in tumor cells and light, to enable precise localized photo toxicity! doi.org/10.1021/acsc...

Donor-PeT Control of Intersystem Crossing Enables ALDH1A1-Activated Photodynamic Therapy
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is highly expressed in therapy-resistant and metastatic cancers and represents a clinically relevant biomarker for selective activation strategies. We report AAP, ...

Organelles do NOT have a single uniform pH. And if you think they must, because “protons diffuse fast,” this paper is for you. A thread on why that assumption is wrong; and what we found instead. 🧵 1/n
