Blocktoberfest plus a recent Digitiser recovery off a VHS from the 'tape mountain' of @superpage58.bsky.social have inspired some new Nemetext content at last! The Quote Boat was a feature of Digi on New Year's Eve 1999, with comments from game devs/reps. I'm doing quotes from UK #teletext events.

p111 The Quote Boat: UK Teletext Events Edition

I found a feature called The Quote Boat in a recent VHS teletext recovery of Digitiser from New Year's Eve 1999.

It featured quotes from game developers and representatives from publishers on various gaming releases and topics.

So, it feels appropriate to adopt the title for featured quotes from teletext events I've attended, especially as I'm sure many of the quotes could be coming from Mr. Biffo himself, or indeed from Mr. Super Page 58, Chris Bell, who runs the so-named Digitiser archive website.

The Quote Boat: UK teletext events edition

"It never ceases to amaze me, really, how teletext has had this sort-of afterlife."
- Paul "Mr. Biffo" Rose, Teletext 50

"In the beginning of Ceefax, we were discovering what you could do with the graphics. We used to put experimental designs on the back page where nobody would see them anyway. But we could try things out that way."
- Ian Irving, Teletext 50

Ready to find out if Richard E Grant’s bold gambit of telling everyone he’s a traitor manages to fool the faithful into not thinking he’s a traitor? At least he can use the cloak to appear in more of those 90s rave videos he’s famous for. Has anyone got any Vera’s? superpage58.com/digitiser-vi...

On its way now to teletext recovery hero @jamienemeth.bsky.social - 60 tapes carefully selected from the Mountain. Each has been checked: if their labels are right, there’s a missing edition of Digi on each one. That’s 2% of all broadcast Digi in that box. There’s more ready to go if you want a box

These are all such good ideas. We need some games at an event, and these would be really nice. Crashing Teefax notwithstanding, having a built-in way of keeping players honest would be very handy ;)

Oh, that’s a lovely idea - would you permit the old trick of changing your answer before the ‘bad luck’ screen loads, or are you drawing the line at that? Wonder if we could do something like that at next year’s Block Party, to coincide with the SP58 30th anniversary?

With #teletext you never had to muck about with CAPTCHAs. The 30 second or so wait for your selected page to appear was much more bearable in comparison.
A teletext page with the header "captchoozle!".

At the top of the page is the prompt "to verify you are a human, select the image of a car". There are a group of four large icons arranged as a two by two grid of black icons on white rectangular backgrounds. Each icon has a prompt above consisting of a coloured square and the name of that colour next to the square.

The icons are of a tram with a "red" prompt, a tractor with a "green" prompt, a car with a "yellow" prompt and a lorry with a "blue" prompt.
