THE BELL JAR HARD ❌ It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York EASY ✅ That summer was sizzling, and so were the Rosenbergs
An advert for a company called Magibook. The headline reads "Turn HARD books into EASY books with Magibook! Maximize your reading potential and avoid difficult language today."

Underneath is two covers of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Above the first cover is the original version of the opening sentence (captioned "Turn Hard Books"), which reads "In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since."

Above the second cover (captioned "into Easy Books") is a simplified version, which reads "When I was young, my dad told me something that I still think about."

Will the Greens be higher or lower than 8% in the polls at the end of 2025?

Kinda fascinated by the voters who are voting Green unless there happens to be a Reform candidate in the mix! They must not realise how progressive the Greens are on social issues and immigration.

A player threatened with disqualification from a World Series of Poker event. His crime? Merely wearing an item of clothing associated with Palestine. Shame on you WSOP.

Beyond all this it is mad the way that people have been moving in their droves to the very states that will be most affected by climate change. Florida, Arizona, Texas...

Ireland has consistently called them out for their slaughter of civilians. Now they are closing their embassy in Dublin citing Ireland's "anti-Semitism".

Apart from George Weah has an international footballer become head of state of any other country before?

Yes. This is the issue. As always in politics it's not the original thing that is the hanging offence...it's the botched attempt at a cover up.

Turkey is very high too. I wonder is that still from the crackdown after the failed coup attempt in 2016.

100% - Also why FF/FG only ever offer demand side solutions to a supply side problem. The dirty little secret is their core voters are perfectly happy to see those house prices keep climbing despite paying lip service to caring about the housing crisis and homelessness

Regardless of what comes next in Syria it is a great pleasure to see a boodthirsty nepo-baby tyrant like Assad be dethroned. Nobody bears more responsiblity for the current state of that country than him and his willingness to slaughter his own people.

Same. I was making a point of calling it Twitter until I discovered this place. Then I realised that this is the real heir to the Twitter I remember and it's better to call the other site by the ridiculous name that that clown gave to it.

I think with SF and FG it very much depends on what point in time they are comparing it to. There is something there for both optimists and pessimists.

It was in reaction to the sleveen move comment. Even when the CC wants to retire they always take the free pass at the election and then serve out the next Dail as a regular TD. Seamus Kirk, Rory O'Hanlon and Sean Barrett all did it before. What do you think they should do?

It's in the constitution that the CC gets re-elected automatically at the next election.

Yeah it's usually a senior member of the party but not the actual leader. They come in at the very end. Varadkar was lead negotiator for FG in 2016.

The obvious ones bombed but the dog whistlers were successful: Aontu, Mattie McGrath and Carol Nolan. It'll be interesting to see if Sharon Keoghan gets her Seanad seat back.

India burns more coal than the USA and EU combined. China burns multiples more than India. Nepal is sandwiched between them so their air pollution may not even be their own fault.

Much like FF/FG, Soc Dems/Labour have no major policy differences between each other but they are unlikely to merge anytime soon, for historical reasons. Soc Dems in particular are dead set against it.

Anything with SF in it ain't happening as both FG and FF have ruled out going in with them. It'll either be FFFG + Independents (possibly including Independent Ireland) Or FFFG + LAB

Both FF & FG ruled out SF. Also PBP-SOL categorically stated that they would not go into government with FG or FF.

FF have categorically ruled out SF so none of those are going to happen.

Super Nashwan @supernashwan.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
Aontu won't be going in. Both themselves and FF have ruled it out. Independent Ireland are unlikely too as they have said they won't impose a whip - so they can't be depended on for tough votes. It'll likely be regular independents. Lowry and the Healy-Raes plus a few others that can be bought off.

Last night on TV he referred to the Soc Dems as more of a "debating society than a political party". For people like him the only reason for the likes of the Greens/Labour/Soc Dems is to prop up FFFG governments

Super Nashwan @supernashwan.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
The only time the older generations will punish FFFG is if house prices drop. They know it - hence all the demand side initiatives that do not provide any new supply but only push up prices.

Aontu belong in there as well if Carol Nolan does. They both use similar tactics when discussing migration and are catholic conservatives on social issues.

I agree with the general sentiment but using Electorate is a little bit misleading. If you use actual Voting turnout instead that nearly doubles the percentages
