I once saw a kid get stuck in a 'kid swing' and like 20 people tried to get her out and none of us could. Her dad showed up with a giant spoon and some coconut oil and greased her up. It always made me think that it was not the first time.

You may not appreciate this, but my entire family has been firefighters from the 1800s until my father did not join the fire department but join the army. As such I am genetically predisposed to put out fires not start them.

I remember being on study section once, and somebody said something wrong. I said 'that is factually incorrect'. and he was like 'well lets just agree to disagree' I said 'no, the only thing I will agree on is that you are wrong'. my grants did not do well there for a long time.

Chair yelled at me for missing a great opportunity. Then the next few years when I saw him at conferences he would fucking glare at me. Dodged a bullet. Also, he lost job because of fraud later.

My favorite was when I interviewed.. went well .. they then said sorry state money is not there. Fast forward a few months.. just had verbally accepted offer at UNC... Got a phone call that money was in. Asked when I could come for 2nd visit. I said... Sorry just accepted offer.
