The things that take break my suspension of disbelief are wild. All the ridiculous plot points in Xena? Sure. Xena being thrown into a pit and having rats unleashed on her to I assume try and eat her? No. Rats would never do that.

I have no idea what to watch anymore. So I’m just rewatching taskmaster. Season 7 is my favourite. I haven’t reached season 19 yet, but the chaotic energy of Jason Mantzoukas and Stevie Martin team tasks is top tier Taskmaster.

It only matters because of a catastrophic potentially career ending injury. Suddenly, it’s oh no where is the duty of care. There is no duty of care in professional sport. The higher the profile, the higher the pressure to continue through injuries. It is the expectation.

It’s fascinating to watch the discourse of people coming out and saying well if Nathan Cleary had a broken foot, then why did staff let him play? As if the best player on the team playing a final injured was unheard of. Players playing injured is seen as heroic and expected.

One thing I’ve learnt from this reading of Catching Fire. Being an adult being stuck in the arena with Katniss and Peeta would be the worst. Having to put up with 2 love struck teenagers? The worst. Trying to start an uprising and there are these teenagers with their epic love story drama

I’m on my lunch break in my car. I need to back but the effort of doing things is just way too much.

Katniss is passive to her role as the Mockingjay and fitting into the rebellion. But her wanting for her sister, mother and family to survive. Like, that’s her entire thing. Just a real weird take. A completely incorrect take. Or maybe they just focused on the boys part.

I fell into a Wikipedia rabbit hole yesterday and ended up on the Hunger Games page. It mentioned some opinions were that Katniss was passive and had no desires Which is such a weird reading of the books coz there is a very clear motive and desire. The safety of her family and to survive.

Finished the Ballard of songbirds and snakes. My review is: holy fuck.

It was a bit slow but it really grabbed me in the end. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series. I mean, I probably will because I have the time but other than that. I probably wouldn’t

Thursday murder club was a fairly meandering story. I had to up the speed of the book. It went to some really dark places. It really surprised me with some aspects of the story. I had seen the movie so knew some of the big points, but it’s a different tone.

I’m Glad My mom died was a fairly brutal listen, I think listening to the audiobook added an extra dimension because read by the author so really conveyed the tone Especially important for the tone changes between the people pleasing and thoughts. It is an in-depth journey

I did take a break between the hunger games and Ballard of snakes and songbirds. In that break, I listened to another 2 books. I’m Glad My Mom died by Jennette McCurdie and the Thursday Murder Club. So, I have lots of time in my life to listen to books. I’ll add some thoughts

Why cast someone who can sing and not have them sing the songs of the bard character? How can I truly embrace the charisma of Lucy Grey Baird, so bard like that it’s her name, without the vocals of a charismatic Santino Fontana!

I’ll have no problems talking about Lucy Grey, because I can spell her name. I think. It might be Gray. All I know is it’s not just Lucy. My main critique of the audiobook format is where is the singing Santino Fontana? If Tatiana Maslany can sing as Katniss, he can sing as Lucy Grey.
