Economic Democracy Is at the Heart of Socialism
Democracy should not end when the workday begins. Workers deserve a say over how their workplaces are run — and a claim on the wealth they create.

For a decade, corporate Dems & liberals have soothed themselves by insisting Trump won ONLY because of racism, not also because voters got sick of corporate Dems promising hope & change - and then selling them out. In this important NYT clip, @sunraysunray.bsky.social destroys this argument.

"There are other capable progressives weighing a run in 2028," writes @sunraysunray.bsky.social. "However, none of them can do the two things AOC can do at once: run a serious national campaign as one of the most recognized figures in the country, and pull an entire movement into being behind it."

I wouldn't expect Douthat to interview a socialist, let alone that he would do it fairly and thoughtfully. But he did and it is worth a listen. Bhaskar Sunkara does a great job responding. Gift link @nytimes.com @sunraysunray.bsky.social

I miss blogs. As @sunraysunray.bsky.social writes, when independent blogging narrowed and news websites closed their comment sections, the debates didn’t vanish, they migrated into private channels or morphed into “quote-tweet pile-ons, where the incentive is attention through denunciation.”

Very silly, since I've written extensively on the Marxist understanding of class & this essay is about 150 years of shifts in working-class parties 🧵 1. This is a quick use of exit polls with education as a proxy for class, since CNN doesn't ask people their relationship to the means of production.
