My current understanding is that - Restore have a laissez-faire "no boundaries" policy to all forms of racism - Reform may well sanction/exclude office-holders or members who call for Kemi Badenoch to be deported (though other attacks on her heritage do appear to be allowed, eg Nigerian fraud)

I am also canvassing views on Restore's approach for my column on the politics of racism + remigration within the right. "Will it help or harm Restore Britain - electorally - to have members + activists campaigning for the deportation of Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch?"
Will it help or harm Restore Britain - electorally - to have members + activists campaigning for the deportation of Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch?

Is this something Restore should adopt & encourage, discourage or exclude, or welcome different views in the party on it?

Sally Symonds is an Restore member + activist, who tweets that "the Badenoch bounce should be bouncing her back to Yoruba land". (Its still Restore party policy to refuse to have any sanctions or exclusions for any form of racism by party office-holders or party members). She calls "Reform Yookay"

Vlad supports the petition to deport the Conservative leader. He is a Restore Britain member, Free Speech Union member seeking revenge and retribution. But Vlad is v confused: he would not back Restore if they would deport people with ILR or citizenship (They say they will)

There is a lot of organisation into party branches. Those who see Lowe as a mainstream figure could call this "entryism". However, it is also a conscious Restore Britain decision to allow entryism by refusing to have any policing of membership for extreme views or associations with neo-nazis.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays) @sundersays.bsky.social · 2h
Callum Barker - formerly of Patriotic alternative - would deport Badenoch. He campaigned for Restore Britain in Holborn. He says Restore allowing entryism gives "nationalists the opportunity to, organise, network, graft, and put themselves in a position of power" despite finding Lowe too soft

Anita supports Britain First's call to deport the Conservative leader. " Rupert Lowe fights for us in Parliament, Tommy fights for us on the Streets" she says, despite disapproving of Robinson's money grifting + support for Israel. She sees Farage as just another Tory who will let migrants in

Mark supports the Britain First petition to deport the Conservative Party leader. He is a Reform supporter, who believes Farage will be Prime Minister. He wants Lowe to work with Farage. He also worries about Farage undermining Reform by having ethnic minorities in the party, posting racist memes

Lucy Kelly sees herself as a middle of the road mostly ethno nationalist who is publicly advocating the Britain First campaign for the deportation of the Conservative Party leader. She supports Restore, seeing Reform as too timid on remigration, but would welcome a Farage-Lowe pact if Lowe led

Sunder Katwala (sundersays) @sundersays.bsky.social · 2h
Robert Stevenson is a Reform and Nigel Farage supporter who backs Britain First's petition to deport Kemi Badenoch. Robert believes that Lowe's Restore is an establishment conspiracy to stop Farage, and wants Farage and Lowe to team up to deport all of the migrants + minorities

Britain First have an online petition to deport the Conservative party leader "for pretending to be English", saying "At her recent conference speech, Badenoch claimed to be 'English', which is a total lie". (It is actually a lie by Britain First that she claimed to be English herself (!!)

"Some of us are are trying to work out real solutions to real problems rather than resorting to brain farts" writes Mr North of his plan to ban Ed Miliband, Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman, Zia Yusuf (& even the children of Burnham + Farage + Jenrick) from parliament using the 1700 act of settlement

His brain thinkd the Tories must have lost because they chose an Asian and black leader - calling voting for Badenoch "liberalism" (black right-wing Tory) This is an absurd hypothesis about 2019!-24. How does he explain Sunak starting more popular than the party, converging down. Badenoch above.

A v interesting finding from @steveakehurst.bsky.social One hypothesis (held by Reform) is that this kind of attack on them would backfire with right of centre voters. Not here. So this nessage works with Tory-curious swing voters. That suggests challenging racism can have a pretty broad reach

Richsrd North, once a mainstrean Eurosceptic, wants to ban the newly elected Holborn MP and Kemi Badenoch (along with Zia Yusuf & Suella Braverman & deputy speaker Nus Ghani Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg from elected office). He would want two British-born parents to be the test of eligibility!

General Election timing. Shifting bookmakers odds today now imply these probabilities. 2027: 34% (15/8) 2028: 15% (5/1) 2029: 51% (10/11) (Ladbrokes) This is a shift of betting market sentiment towards 2027 (but these are prices, not predictions)

A typical Commons contribution on government debt
I thank the Chancellor and the Minister for their speech and statement. We know that the Conservatives’ Brexit deal has hit national GDP by as much as 8%, costing the country up to £90 billion a year in lost tax revenues. Will the Government Toggle showing location ofColumn 722now pull the largest zero-cost growth lever available to them by negotiating a growth and defence partnership with the EU, including joining the single market and a new customs union, rather than clinging to the same failed red lines, which are costing businesses billions every year? Being outside the single market and the customs union directly links to the 13% fall in the UK’s export of goods since 2022, which has hit traditional manufacturing regions the worst—the same places that the Government’s reindustrialise-the-north agenda claims to prioritise. I would like to understand whether she acknowledges the reality of that linkage or not.

I welcome the Chancellor’s emphasis on the importance of fiscal credibility and, linked to that, meeting the fiscal rules. However, the reality is that those rules have been easily gamed by successive Governments, with our budgetary process being summarised as speculation without scrutiny, short-term headroom chasing and gaming the system, with an approach of jam today, which is spending, and pain tomorrow, which is tax, but tomorrow never arrives. The result is that it has been more than 25 years since we had a balanced Budget, and our national debt is now six times larger than 20 years ago.

Will the Chief Secretary demonstrate that she is serious about tackling our debt and agree that a key way to do that is to grow our economy? Will she consider what we can learn from how other countries such as Switzerland, Sweden and New Zealand have addressed and solved their budget process problems?

Raheem Kassam replies that he is "trolling the UK establishment" for kicks. "Just highlight someone’s own words and suddenly you’re a racist" he writes - which is a somewhat inaccurate + incomplete description of his description of Kemi Badenoch as a "Nigerian scammer" and "woke anchor baby"

Some of the non-EU citizens are white, eg USA, Australia, Canada, etc. Jenrick may also mean the smaller number of naturalised citizens from Europe migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/br...

Sunder Katwala (sundersays) @sundersays.bsky.social · 23h
The "millions and millions" refers *only* to those who are British citizens now - so this is about Jenrick talking about millions + millions of people who all arrived before the pandemic + the Johnson government who are British citizens, who he does not believe should ever have become citizens
152
Sunder Katwala (sundersays) @sundersays.bsky.social · 23h
Jenrick's "millions and millions" rhetoric would mean that *most* naturalised citizens (> 2/3) do not in his eyes meet a British identity, cultural integration test. He thinks their [fixed] non-white Eng ethnicity makes that worse Its of a piece with Rupert Lowe's "millions must go" for Restore.

The ethno-nationalist case rejects integration + promotes mass remigration as racial protection – within a catch-all grievance politics that shifts seamlessly from complaints about the absence of integration to fears of a minority takeover. www.easterneye.biz/british-cohe...

Justin Webb put this kind of point to me. But this simply conflates + confuses concerns about too little integration with a backlash against ethnic diversity (integration!) reaching the top of public life.
In an interview about Sunak’s article, Today programme presenter Justin Webb asked me if the argument was really about how “too many people who have come to this country who do not have British values and lead separate lives”.

That confuses two quite distinct integration debates. It takes a feat of mental gymnastics to see objections to Sunak, London mayor Sadiq Khan or Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch holding leadership roles as reflecting concerns about too little ethnic minority integration, rather than a backlash against too much.

Robert Jenrick of Reform on why he wants a debate about who is not ethnically English, not just a debate about cultural integration. But it is deeply illogical to claim insisting that Rishi Sunak + Marcus Rashford can't be English is driven by a concern about too little integration!

"His legal claim against the police and courts is thought to be the first time a member of the Royal family has challenged the lawfulness of criminal proceedings against them since the trial of Charles I in 1649" (Telegraph)
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has always maintained his innocence and, with misconduct in public office a notoriously difficult charge to bring, is confident of clearing his name.

His legal claim against the police and courts is thought to be the first time a member of the Royal family has challenged the lawfulness of criminal proceedings against them since the trial of Charles I in 1649.

Many of us are delighted that he has finally decided to fight his corner. He’s been under fire for 15 long years and yet has never been charged, let alone convicted.
