sharing for the rest of the class
responding sincerely to this even though i don't think you meant it that way. my answer is no, not really. or, well, not on its own in my universe of what paying respect to someone (in this case a woman, but anyone too) means (literally 'looking again' in latin).
i'm not saying expression of desire is bad, i get overwhelmed by it sometimes. being openly, joyfully desirous can be lovely. but there's a way of doing it narrowly which makes seeing another person about yourself, flattening them in the process. i don't want you not to want, but to want *bigger*.
a bigger wanting in your whole being that can coexist with another person's sovereignty instead of overriding it with your lust in a narrow, self-directed focus that makes someone a thing to possess. a wanting so big that you cannot contain it; so big it cannot be held by you for even a moment.
i want you to *see well*. i want you to see women and look again a second time (pay respect) and a third, past the point where your initial impression dissolves. i want you to attend to the women if your life for an uncomfortably long time, and come back to that attending again and again and again.
in seeing well i want you to be seeing what is put on offer for you her, seeing of her what she would endorse, and not just seeing what you wish to take from her. i want you to see in her what she would give you to hold with care and reverence and admiration.
and in loving well i want you to be unmade by her, and to suffer—truly suffer—in the realization that someone other than yourself is as real as you are. in loving well i want you to scream and laugh and cry in agonizing delight that there's someone real in front of you who you can never fully know.

I wanted to do a serious painting and record the whole drawing process, just to have an example for the youtube. It ended up taking over 10 hours, so I'll have to do multiple x16 speed edits to make it at all palatable to watch.
Digital painting of a light green path in a forest surrounded by trees on both sides. A creature with aspects of both an insect and a dinosaur is standing on a tree root in the upper left of the image, surrounded by a few smaller flying creatures. The image is painted in mostly warm tones, making it appear to take place in early morning.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

and here we have em, seven invertebrate deities for seven days of #Invertefest could have gotten the styles closer to their cultures, but I'm mostly glad I was able to make new art for it, I had no clue if I was even gonna be able to sit down and draw lol
collage of 7 deities drawn in black and grey digital pen on white with a splash of color each, going from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink
the deities from top left are:
- Beelzebub, a fly demon covered in grey hair with red eyes and a red floating crown, with a snoot and mouth claws and a stabby looking ovipositor in the back of the abdomen
- Khepri, egyptian scarab holding the sun, orange sun with little orange crown above, little orange human stickfigure body under a sparkly orange carapace, with the large white grey ornamental bird wings with small orange higlights
- Anansi, grey body with a mask drawing on the head/thorax and dots/lines on the abdomen, a golden yellow crown above them and glowing yellow eyes
- Ah Muzen Cab, but as a mayan style bee, with a green crown on top, green eyes and green stripes, modified a bit from the original mayan bee depiction to have 6 legs and 4 wings
- Psyche, a butterfly with greek pattern wings with blue highlights and a blue crown
- ǀKaggen, a mantis with purple dotted wings and a purple crown, the rest of the mantis is grey with white dots
- Ōmukade, the japanese centipede yokai, but they have a pink head and pink crown and are coiled around themselves

This is a widespread earthworm, introduced all over North America. It’s one of Alaska’s most common worms, thriving there because it can flood its cells with glucose to lower its freezing point. Yet it also seems to handle the hot summers of Appalachian Virginia, and it’s a species I see often here

The specific name octaedra means “eight-sided” because its eight paired setae (that most earthworms have) are widely separated, giving it an octagonal cross-section. Few other common Lumbricidae have setae like that, so it’s a fairly easy species to identify.
