“Black, queer, disabled, and working-class artists are continually invited to be visible — but not paid. Platformed, but not protected. Our labor fuels institutions that rarely acknowledge our right to own, direct, or even survive off what we create.” —Damien Davis, artist and educator

Juneteenth Is the Story of a Freedom Withheld

In the art world, as in America at large, spectacle is welcomed more readily than structural change.

ANYONE ELSE FROM NEW ORLEANS ON HERE? TW Still shellshocked from news about the Quarter attack. How are y’all doing w this? Because it really hollowed me dangerously out (was already ledge-dwelling) even further and was already well below my literal and figurative fighting weight. —>

New modeling study finds that if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn N95 or FFP2 masks from the start of the pandemic, the rate of COVID-19 transmission would have been 9 times lower.

What if everyone had masked up? Analysis of app data has an answer
Modelling study based on almost 250,000 positive COVID-19 tests in the United Kingdom shows that universal masking could have cut transmission markedly.

What would have happened if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn high-grade masks during the COVID-19 pandemic? A modelling study1 has estimated just how sharply transmission might have dropped.

Determining the effect of masks on viral transmission is difficult, and most studies so far have been affected by limitations such as small sample sizes. To overcome this issue, Richard Sear at the University of Surrey, UK, developed a model of transmission using data from the UK National Health Service COVID-19 app. The app, which ran on mobile phones between 2020 and 2023, logged information about infections and the length of time users came into contact with each other.

Sear built on a previously published analysis2 of 240,000 positive COVID-19 tests and 7 million contacts — instances in which app users were notified that they had been exposed to the virus. He estimated that if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn N95 or FFP2 masks — both highly effective at filtering particles — the rate of COVID-19 transmission would have dropped by a factor of 9.

Hey, my public and community health peeps, virologists, epidemiologists, Covid experts? What is most up to date, and most effective Covid vaccine currently available? Extremely overdue. Have had Moderna, Pfizer abs Novovax in past. Thank you…

Would really like to leave fb/ meta completely, delete everything etc, but i rely on medical groups for my rare medical disorders, and groups in general to organize most things. Are there any equivalents to groups in this interface or plans to implement, soon?

Bluesky is winning because both twitter and threads have gone out of their way to make their platforms inhospitable to reputable journalists and news. @kattenbarge.bsky.social reports: www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-...

Journalists flock to Bluesky as X becomes increasingly 'toxic'

Journalists are finding more readers and less hate on Bluesky than on the platform they used to know as Twitter.

It is insane that anyone has to justify or defend over a century of continuously established and vetted science (vaccines) but here you go. Honestly I’m not sure how effective facts, science logic are anymore. Fear we are post truth esp w unchecked genAI casting doubt on well, everything
