I was a writer at BioWare for 5 years (2011-2016). I leaned a lot during that time from exceptional folx in many disciplines, but also specifically from my fellow writers & our amazing editors, on both the ME & DA brands. Today, not a single one of those writers & editors remains employed there.

there is one (1) bloodweave fic that I enjoy and it is solely thanks to the author being very very good at writing her fantastic concept (pre-canon AU where Gale becomes a vampire lord to halt the orb's progress). otherwise i don't really get it tbh but oh well! glad everyone's having fun!

sometimes it doesn't pan out, but that's ok! whatever I gave them was a gift to let them know that I'm glad they're in this same fandom space. I am not trying to create a debt they should feel obligated to repay. fandom spaces are nicer to exist in when we're all supportive of each other regardless

I have made many good fandom friends by talking to people I admire. my go-to friendship strategy is to make sth tailored to the person I want to befriend (like fanfic based on their fanart), leaving thoughtful comments on their stuff, etc.

talk to creators and fellow fans you admire/whose work you think is cool (instead of lurking in the shadows). this is how you make fandom friends. but more importantly: remember people have different boundaries. just bc you want to be friends doesn't mean they want the same, nor are they obligated

to this I would add: try to avoid insulting yourself (belittling yourself in comparison to the person you wanna compliment). there's no good response to "you're so much better at X than me, I suck compared to this", etc. it's just sad to be used not to inspire others but to put them down.
