I was a writer at BioWare for 5 years (2011-2016). I leaned a lot during that time from exceptional folx in many disciplines, but also specifically from my fellow writers & our amazing editors, on both the ME & DA brands. Today, not a single one of those writers & editors remains employed there.

reading M. R. James' ghost stories, and I love how they're all variations of "an English gentlemen of quality acquires a book that turns out to be cursed" or "sees strange visions at night" or "gets curious correspondence from a fellow scholar". and they're all good!!

new twine game idea: a choose-your-own-adventure in which you're someone who answered minthara's ad with waterdeep dating services (yes i'm always thinking about that cameo) you play to win her heart but in true CYOA fashion, there are many deaths you can suffer (mostly minthara killing you)

i always imagined this is canon for durge considering all the harpers they mashed up and caved in.

a comic including a custom origin durge and enver gortash of bg3. panel one: durge has her back turned to gortash, he says "ah! where have you been? I thought you had squirreled away in some corner of the tower." panel two: durge turns around, with a vacant expression and her entire front of body sprayed in blood. panel 3: Gortash looks at her with resignation and says "...outside, then."

talk to creators and fellow fans you admire/whose work you think is cool (instead of lurking in the shadows). this is how you make fandom friends. but more importantly: remember people have different boundaries. just bc you want to be friends doesn't mean they want the same, nor are they obligated

1133

friend not sword | stygius @stygius.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

to this I would add: try to avoid insulting yourself (belittling yourself in comparison to the person you wanna compliment). there's no good response to "you're so much better at X than me, I suck compared to this", etc. it's just sad to be used not to inspire others but to put them down.

It occurs to me, after reading posts getting it spectacularly wrong, that there are a lot of misconceptions over how game studios organize and, in particular, who makes the actual decisions about what ends up in your game. Much of it is by folks who don't *try* to get it... but not all, surely. 1/🧵

So many summer fields

Digital painting. Illustration of a dry grassy windswept field, the right half blackened and burnt with a fire sweeping the edge. Standing in the fire are two women, one a fair-skinned blonde with long hair blowing in the wind. She faces away from the viewer and wears a billowing black dress. Her right arm rests at her side, and her hand rests on the shoulder of a dark-skinned woman wearing a pale gold dress who’s sitting with her eyes closed. In the distance is a small white sun held in a pale, smoke-filled pink sky.

another Caleb expression sheet, this time mid-campaign Caleb 🤩 same wizard, more friends! tried to keep the blood splatter setting and the beard level consistent with whatever was happening in the game at the time (in MOST of these at least) #CriticalRole #CriticalRoleFanart

a sketch spread depicting Caleb Widogast from Critical Role, based on and referenced from various bits of in-game roleplay. he is a freckled man with hair just long enough to put in a small messy ponytail. in some sketches he has a full beard, in some only a little bit of stubble. the drawings are done in a semi-realistic style and focus on the subtlety of facial expression. many are head shots, some are larger; one of them depicts him casting Acid Arrow, a magical arrow stretched between his arms, in a semblance of drawing a real bow. in another, he has one of his arms up in a tense gesture, casting Cat's Ire. in a third, he is being hugged by Beauregard, his head held close to her chest; he seems almost limp, accepting the hug with a thousand yard stare, while Beau smiles into his hair.
