When I was a kid I was exposed primarily to Devo, Abba, and The Beatles, all of which had extremely memorable and ambitious productions on their records. I can't say the same for what I hear as a listener on the vast majority of The Dan.

Dark Side of the Moon hit me like that in a BIG way when I was 13 or so. This is nowhere near that level for me. Specifically Aja enters the realm of "recorded so clinically, it might as well have been synthesized" for me where I get bored, while DSotM has much more dynamic and memorable production

Steely Dan is mostly fine Just sounds like the '70s to me? I guess that indicates how iconic they are. Engineers who use Aja as a standard are I think missing out on a lot of fantastic music. A lot of people point to Aja or Gaucho as "wow perfect album" territory and they don't move me that way.

It's also funny how much the lore of the first game really leans into the eventual realization that the forerunners were human. Now that 343 has retconned that, nothing 343 guilty spark says makes much sense. I am hopeful they do not overwrite that in the remake.

I'm also intentionally taking paths I haven't taken before to compare against the remake. Assault on the Control Room is a much more impressive level than I feel it gets credit for, a surprising number of satisfying alternate routes can be taken. The Silent Cartographer eats it's lunch
