maybe hot take: VTM: Bloodlines 2 is narratively and atmospherically a nearly perfect sequel to the original game, but systemically inherits none of the traits of it's parent game. It is in mechanical language an Immersive Sim, but not an RPG.

Even sadder, the team behind this game and the FANTASTIC Syberia: The World Before were laid off around it's launch. The fact that it made it was released is a miracle in a sense. Many on the USA side of the world will empathize with the loss here, and on a genre scale it is potentially devastating.

Unfortunately, many don't have the time and patience for an old school point and click game, even with a large swath of modern conveniences and goodies added to it. Despite very positive reviews and the healthy Syberia fanbase, the game has below 200 reviews on Steam hinting at pretty low sales.

The influence from the recent Myst and Riven remakes is clear. More detail has been added and puzzles are given somewhat altered contexts that make them more readily understandable to new players, as well as a greater focus on the first person experience (albeit occasionally to it's detriment)
