So glad these airplane seats are thin enough to feel all of the stuff the person behind me put in the seat back pocket

And a lot of the “good” guys also do this. So much free labor is constantly demanded and then not recognized by these men.

Lately I’ve been realizing my problem with (many) straight guys stems from their belief it’s okay to need (or demand) all women in their life treat them like a child and need to be taken care of.

I’m glad this person connected some dots but the article shows how few others did and I have doubts they’ll be able to resist everyone around them saying “well actually”

Matthew Shepard was killed and for a while Laramie felt shame collectively. A few years later some folks went back and reinterviewed people, largely the shame was replaced with indifference, lies, and conspiracies. People can see the light for a minute but without help don’t find their way to it.

While a different route I bet you need a lot less staff for pax only ferries generally.

I think it’s funny how WA State is like we can’t pay for passenger fast ferries because we have to run the big ferry and the big ferry is frequently pulling this shit. It struggled last weekend to and I doubt this will be the last time.

Knowing how road networks usually work helps in areas you go was a thing. Also a lot of just asking people how to get there and then rolling with it lol. My grandfather loved giving directions including things you didn’t need to know like “you’re going to see an owl, don’t turn there”

In Seattle many poles are govt owned so the government can do stuff when it wants.

Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Wouldn’t be shocked if it’s beurocratic. When I was learning about something in Seattle it was explained to me the reason there are frequently poles next to poles is because of how hard it is to coordinate with the owners of a pole and users to get things done. Probably moving to city owned control

🧵 I don’t think I’ve ever come across documents that told a story about cops covering their tracks so clearly before. The text messages below tell the story better than any exposition. They sent most of these messages less than a day after they’d killed a man in a mental health crisis with AR-15s.

Company posted a new policy that we cannot use AI to generate an analysis of virtually anything. Combined with other policies we’re basically at don’t use it except to search for sources or to find emails in outlook.

Anyway I guess Northgate to Westlake will be closed on Oct 6-8th in the evenings for maintenance per the repetitive announcements while I wait for a train.

I really do not understand why the rail lines in Seattle seem so unreliable nor why they need to close huge chunks so often.

Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I use it if I don’t feel like walking 10-15 minutes from a train or something and so sometimes $2 seems worth the laziness. If I were to try and do my whole commute on one though it would be like $20 each way. Reliable transit makes it all work.
000
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
It’s only cheaper if the distance is short and you mix in transit (i.e, it’s ok for short distances to connect to something else to solve the ‘last mile’ but adds up quickly). I think like charges like 2.50 for 10min if you pay 5.99 or it’s $1 to unlock + 0.55 a minute.

I also don’t know why iOS still doesn’t have ORCA cards available.
020
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I still don’t understand why we have to do this (provide the last four of a card number which is extra complicated for virtual/mobile/phone cards) versus just tapping the card on the inspection device like I’ve done everywhere else.
Sign in a bus that says Four Digits. One easy fare check. If you tapped on with a credit card or a credit card in your mobile wallet be prepared to show the last four digits of your card during fare inspection.

I’m sorry, that feeling is awful. I hope they come around.

Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I think the main thing that will happen when the sounders who’ve averaged 30-43k per game previously when they move to a 25k stadium is they will charge more per game particularly events because instead of massively increasing capacity it will be limited below today’s average attendance per game
150
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
The reasoning for the Turf is almost solely indicated to be so they can more easily and quickly host events and keep the stadium busy. I think F&G would prefer to go the other way. F&G is also required to cover the costs of the grass for “Major Soccer Events”
020
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
That’s not correct, there are public records regarding this. F&G (owned by the Seahawks) came to an agreement with the state to use Turf so long as for Major Soccer Events Grass was installed. This was considered a public benefit. As ppl are saying, the state has more influence here than suggested
130
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Technically it expires in 2031 and has 10 year renewal options F&G could execute (or refuse and end the contract); the state generally must accept the extension unless the state claims there is a breach of the lease, contract, PBA, etc. ala why some people say to pressure the stadium authority
000
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Turf does allow for more aggressive play in the rain typically thanks to that. I think the reality we’re all missing is this field is used sometimes in less then 24 hours from another team using it (Seahawks, Sounders, Reign) or events giving little time to do work on the field between events
240
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
At the time the stadium was built the Sounders didn’t have the capacity to really run a stadium, not sure the Seahawks did but they had a well funded backer who got what was demanded (new stadium). Stuff has changed since that first lease, sounders are much more able to handle
000
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Seahawks don’t own lumen, they operate the field through a subsidiary the state has given control to, we can change that when the lease is up if the state chooses and note the Seahawks don’t have a trump card on getting the public to pay them, this stadium was redesigned for soccer for a reason
200
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Football on a wet grassy field will cause damage then mix in the sounders playing on it and concerts and shows, then open top roof exposing it to the elements, etc. all lead to what would be wet muddy grass for chunks of the year without some kind of significant change to the build
110
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
It’s driven with being very expensive to permanently fix, including being difficult to match the frequency of use with the mixing of uses. The team, coaches, etc am have all expressed openness to grass, but the reality of using grass at lumen is harder than face value
130
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
NFL players also want grass, like 92% of them. I think all players hate slamming into concrete, no reason Lumen can’t support that

I do think it’s confusing. Then again the new sign on the SW says “To 1201 Third” on it now replacing WaMu so I guess they love building names? Landmark? Metros accessible map also used to refer to the building names quite a bit and they did the initial signage
Metros accessibility map, highlighting the large number of building names like Chase Bank, Cobb Building, Puget Sound Plaza, Safeco Plaza, etc

A 2015 article points to a three year average of 43k per game, now we want to go to a stadium that would never get that back. Our 2025 average was 30k a game, we’re literally going to drop attendance potential before the gates even open.
0110
Robert Getch @stumptoemerald.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Owners should be fixated on getting back to an average of 43k per game and not moving to a small stadium that couldn’t support anything close to that.

No Lumen or Seahawks without the Sounders and soccer communities help IMO the football only proposal was supposedly going to flop. There was adjustments made to seating IIRC to make soccer viewing better. www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/j...

How soccer saved the Seattle Seahawks
When the Seahawks’ potential move to California was put to a referendum, an unlikely voting bloc helped keep the team in Seattle

The building just to the east of the exit is the Cobb building. The stairs in the other (SW corner) also used to have signs listing the Building (WaMu Tower, now 1201 Third) until earlier this year and they replaced it with signs not listing WaMu anymore. Cobb is still cobb so maybe they left it
