I visited Tipsoo Lake in Mt. Rainier National Park on the hunt for mountain reflections and alpine wildflowers. The cloudy sky prevented any reflections of Mt. Rainier, but I did discover an abundance of wildflowers! This painting captures the beautiful blooms up close, in impressionistic color. Thick brushstrokes of oil paint laid side by side, without layering, create a mosaic or stained-glass appearance in the landscape.

This painting was inspired by a canoe trip down a slow-moving creek in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Tall, overhanging trees lined the banks, enclosing the creek and enveloping it in total silence. The water was so still I could see the reflections of the surrounding trees almost mirror-clear in the water. The only thing that disturbed the water's surface was the occasional fish gulping at a bug. While I was painting this work, I felt completely enveloped in the silence and quiet peacefulness of this memory.

My very unprofessional photo of the eclipse yesterday, using a phone camera & my eclipse glasses. I really loved the atmosphere of the twilight effect but I was also amazed at how much light still gets through from such a small sliver of sun.
