I adore you Leon, Egyptologist here, they were built by a largely volunteer force (corvée labor) of 25,000. The builders were very well fed, paid in bread and beer, and received excellent medical care. There was no slavery whatsoever, it is a common misconception.

Yes. Unless he's re-elected. He wanted a political stunt, but now he has one he didn't plan for. Investigation may get him suspended. Which may cause a 2nd by-election. Which he'll prolly win too. If he *is* ousted by Binface, however, his humiliation will be visible from Sigma IX. Worth it.

The world he built in this book is incredibly satisfying, on so many levels. I skipped the exposition and dived in. Glad that I did, even If I needed a 2nd readthrough to fully absorb it. Itching to go again now. ~ She didn't like it so much, more of a Cryptonomicon person. (She's an historian)
