in stories where a bottom doesn't receive care the narrative focus is still generally on the lack of care they receive. I'm not sure I can think of a single fic or doujin or anything off the top of my head where a top got aftercare from the bottom and that was the emotional focus of the story

it's very noticeable w/ ibr stuff bc he's canonically so intense in his caretaker tendencies. uke ibr content doesn't like completely erase that character trait, but esp en fandom does rly like to emphasize sex/kink as a space where he lets go of the reins and someone else takes care of him,

there are absolutely differences in how ibr tends to get characterized as a top vs how he tends to get characterized as a bottom and I just luckily tend to generally enjoy both patterns (at least w/ Adam). or it might be more apt to say there's different emphasis more than different characterization

that being said: it is true on paper that t/b don't correlate to d/s or to masc/fem or to personality traits. as a creator you can imagine anything. but as a reader, it is absolutely true that different topping order is going to correlate to different patterns of interpretations of a character/ship

I think the thing for me about some trans hcs and the associated fic and/or discussion around them is that they're clearly playing off of the character's canonical relationship to masculinity/femininity but then the depiction of them as trans doesn't engage with that relationship at all
