Corridors cross themselves, divide, and return at heights that no longer agree. The streets describe a flat city; the station beneath them describes something considerably larger. Tiny Japanese annotations patiently catalogue the contradiction. A smaller explanatory diagram occupies the lower-left corner, offering another station inside the drawing of the station. The white paper between the corridors could be daylight, solid ground, or further rooms.

An exploded diagram of Shibuya Station arranges disconnected floors in white space like an Escher staircase equipped with public amenities. Platforms and concourses hover above one another, linked by dense flights of stairs, sloping escalators, and blue elevator shafts. The labels descend from 3F to B5F, although height appears to be negotiated separately in each part of the image. Several places claim to be B1F. Patches labelled “ground level” occur partway through the machinery. Red accessible routes trace a meticulous course through the impossible structure, passing toilets, ticket machines, and numbered exits. The legend at the bottom explains every symbol except how to get outside.

(the 5.8-11.7% includes all vehicle traffic and most other carbon sources in the province btw, it's ridiculous when it could have <=8% of the carbon emissions if built a single province over or if they did a big solar/wind install for its power but they seem to have no interest in doing that)

if it was built in manitoba or quebec that don't seem to rely on coal and nat gas for power that could be easily closer to 300-600KT (assuming they have capacity which they might not but that still isn't an excuse to emit 10x as much carbon at a huge scale like this)

I did a little math and got that if it runs at 100% usage all the time it'd add somewhere in the ~4.2-8.4MT range to our total carbon emissions (~5.8-11.7%) depending on how much of its power on a day comes from coal/nat gas/hydro/wind/solar, i'm going to make a more detailed doc/post about it tho

just heard they're upping the ai datacentre here to 1.2GW, sask friens when's the protest? I'll go why the heck do they do it in sask where most of our power is fossil fuel still (stupid saskparty refusing to build out solar and wind) do they want to make sure to kill the planet

ngl modern software is depressing af, in a lot of things everything is done in very inefficient ways, atleast FOSS is fixable but proprietary software as always feels hopeless when they've already intentionally made a bunch of choices that go against efficiency so they likely don't care as much
