#Neurips 2026 call for creative AI papers looks genuinely cool - they're inviting both research papers + creative works. And the research papers can be speculative, critical, poetic & not just applied or empirical. I'm excited about this workshop - deadline is August 3 AOE neurips.cc/Conferences/...

PSA triggered while dog walking- you're supposed to maintain good posture when using a walker & a good PT will help you adjust the height to do so. And provide guidance on placing safety bars and which types make sense for the space.

Is extra fun when the author has done such a good job of landing the contemporary setting that the modern tech reference is what completely breaks the spell.

Would folks be interested in a tools/libraries workshop? Like best practices on the architecture/design side? And would anybody who's actually been published in viz be interested in helping run the workshop?

continuing my streak of rejected conference talks where it could be content or admin (submitted late 🤦‍♀️) or both. I have been on such a bad run lately that it's making me question my intuition on all the things. 😶

Given how many news orgs have lost independence due to their owners lately, I'm very impressed that the @bloomberg.com podcasts have been super even handed on their coverage of Zohran this entire election cycle.

Just opened up a big python project in vscode on an AI enabled laptop & a minute in I wanna shut it off. Non-intrusively auto complete sphinx - great! Try to guess what I'm trying to do in docs and be completely wrong, not so much. :/

Been thinking on loop of how untenable it is, for any org of similar scale and scope, that the gov't can cancel and claw back POSE funding if any non-POSE work meets the gov'ts ever changing definition of DEI.

Had supervisors who would chew me out for "wasting time" on something that didn't work - it didn't make me go any faster/choose smarter, instead stuck me in even worse "this must be perfect" blue screens.

My grandma's method, which I inherited, for making rice was boil, strain, rinse with hot water, put back in pot to cook & today I saw that's basically the recommend way to handle arsenic in rice so now I'm curious if something like that is how her method came about www.nytimes.com/2025/07/01/w...

Almost every complaint about "problematic" media aimed at women from that era makes me feel this way cause it often fails to contextualize how progressive a lot of these were for the time (which is probably why they even have enough staying power for folks to have heard of 'em now)

My biggest frustration w/ critiques of active learning methods - collaborative syllabus, facilitator vs instructor, non-punitive deadlines - is that doing all these things well takes so much more organization/prep/communication/work than top down lecturing.

NYC is facing extreme heat and a flood watch today. But most NYers are not signed up to receive alerts from Notify NYC. Important that you sign up asap. Just text “NOTIFYNYC” to 692-692. It will ask for your zip code to give you local alerts.

On Android, you can check whether you've got emergency alerts turned on by going to Settings>Notifications>Wireless Emergency Alerts. You want to make sure "Extreme Threats" and "Severe Threats" are enabled. On iPhone, go to Settings>Notifications>Government Alerts.

For perspective: a recent study suggested that economic savings from just a *single* well-predicted hurricane, thanks to NOAA research advancements, are on order of *$5 billion.* That exceeds NOAA's *entire proposed annual operating budget.* So much for government efficiency.
