Trump Administration gives 20 more facilities a break from hazardous air pollution rules On July 13, two days before the first deadlines for companies to comply with 2024 rules on hazardous air pollution, President Donald Trump issued his second proclamation exempting chemical manufacturers, adding 20 more facilities to the list of 53 chemical manufacturers exempted last year. The regulations say that plants must install better pollution controls and lower emissions to meet certain pollution thresholds. Companies must also install air pollution monitors for six known carcinogens.

WAYNESBORO, Miss. — Wayne County, Mississippi, in a quiet southeast corner of the state, is home to about 20,000 people surrounded by forest and farmland. But Wayne distinguishes itself in two ways: it is home to a Sipcam Agro plant that processes the toxic herbicide paraquat. Within the U.S., the plant is the largest single emitter of paraquat. Wayne County also sees high rates of Parkinson’s disease deaths, in the top 7% of all U.S.
