Swiss glaciers suffer 'disastrous' year of ice loss

Scientists say such rapid melting is no longer surprising given the pace of climate change.

someone wondering how much land we could gain from ice melt at poles & how much it might mitigate flood loss elsewhere in the future, but would it be feasible 2grow food on? Greenland's ice sheet holds enough water 2 raise global sea level > 7 metres Antarctica's ice sheet > 58 metres we need Soil

Of all the blueprints I have read on how to redress the long-term damage austerity and financialisation have inflicted upon Britain's society, this one is the most impressive - and hope inspiring. A must read.

thx 4 the recording & the story chapeau great 2 actually hear an author's real voice as opposed 2 the often metaphorical authorial "voice" beloved of describing critics or academics as they strive to categorise or pigeon-hole an individual or a unique story or slant on the wonderful mosaic world

hegemony & perfection are polarity enemies of a difficult task diversity & co-operation confer advantage & collective resiliance

'Diversity confers advantage' in times of shock and crisis, Carney says

Carney says countries should be “bold and deliberate” about forming its alliances, and “not be cowed by the perceived scale of the task.”

“Just as dominance is the arrogance of the hegemon, perfection is the enemy of the good. The economics of this are clear: the leverage of the powerful and an exploitative relationship collapses well before complete independence is achieved.

Because diversity confers advantage. The objective is not self-sufficiency, it’s collective resilience.”

this photo from last night is a hopeful way forward, but Canada has way more raw materials that the EU needs, whereas the UK does not currently possess that specific leverage (although we can offer close co-operative strategic defence procurement)
