It's a pretty weak "establishment", if those three are it. Newsom is term-limited out, Bass is a likely loser in November, and Becerra is an empty suit. The assumption within the legal profession has always been that this was a nuisance suit, so the settlement was inevitable.

To the extent that it is consistent with Title IX and the 5th and 14th Amendments , it is.

Title IX involves serious rights.

Yes. Just because you compete doesn’t mean everyone has to cheer you on.

If Talarico calls for the repeal of Title IX, that would be a serious betrayal.

He ended up competing anyways, and his career ended when he graduated from high school, not because he was legally prevented by the state.

Nope. Title IX is here to stay.

Pretty, pretty, pretty weak scaffolding for more substantive rights, like job discrimination. Since Talarico only opposes trans women involvement in women's sports if it endangers safety or creates unfairness, the overwhelming majority of trans children wouldn't even be effected.

If it's a non-issue, or only an issue that pertains to a symbolic "right", then who cares what our stand is? Let's focus on something important, like immigrant children being kidnapped from their schools by masked agents, and not on trivialities that 90% of the public disagrees with us.

How is that less of a "shared bond"? Fort Sumter and Pearl Harbor created no less of a shared bond among Americans, and part of that was based on the notion that a horrible group of people had attacked us.

We’re not too far from the day when RFK Jr. starts requiring skull measurements to verify citizenship, and Trump goes, “If your skull is the right size you have nothing to worry about,” and then SCOTUS issues the infamous “Skull Size” shadow docket, and out come the calipers.

The key is to get to 51 votes. If Michigan is needed, than we go all in for AES. If the Dems can do it without winning Michigan, then that's more money to spend on a marginal House race or a governor's mansion.

Trump administration admits, in court filings, that it canceled billions in federal grants not for policy or performance reasons, but because recipients lived in blue states. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/b...
Months later, in court filings, federal officials indicated there was little else that had informed the final decision about which grants to cancel.

“With one exception,” a lawyer for the Energy Department conceded in a court filing this month, “the 284 terminated grants had a recipient location and/or at least one place of performance in a state that awarded its electoral votes to Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has two Democratic-caucusing senators.”

The lawyer acknowledged that none of the grants were included in the October terminations “based on any programmatic, statutory, cost-reduction or performance-based factor.”

In contrast, the administration left untouched hundreds of additional energy grants in states that were represented by Republicans and had backed Mr. Trump in the last election, even though the Energy Department had recommended canceling them, the government confirmed in the July court filing.

The cancellations coincided with a broader White House effort at the time to pressure Democratic lawmakers to cave in a fight over funding that had shut down the government. That month, Mr. Trump had vocalized the strategy: He threatened openly to slash what he described as “Democrat agencies,” while Mr. Vought announced a series of additional spending cuts targeting other Democratic-led states.
