This is both outrageous and instructive. If by this stage 'agents' can't be stopped from breaking the law in such a flagrant manner we must question whether alignment is even remotely possible. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

I like to think I've done my bit to make the world slightly more amusing today, as I managed to convince my French mother-in-law that bagpipe music has been outlawed by new international human rights and environmental legislation.

Asylum seeking people don’t have the freedom to work, they don’t even have the freedom to shop using cash or choose where to shop, in temp accommodation they don’t have the freedom to cook or choose their own food - honestly this headline is batshit

I'm several episodes into For All Mankind and it's really growing on me. It looks gorgeous, from the vast moonscapes to the beige/brown 70s garb and decor.

There's nothing quite like a Magnus Mills novel, and this one has started very nicely.

I've been absolutely swamped of late doing a CELTA (a Cambridge accredited Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Got a week or so free now before I move on to the next project. Time to get back to the 1,000 Albums to Listen to Before You Die, eh @drniklaw.bsky.social ?

I've not been on here much recently, as I've been absurdly busy, but the records continue to spin. I enjoyed listening to my dad's 1st pressing of this gem this morning. It brought back memories. #nowspinning #nowplaying

I'll never understand why late challenges like the one made on McGinn are never punished with a penalty. He's wiped out after having got the shot away. Were that a pass in the middle of the pitch it would be a free kick every time. A clearer foul you'll never see.

It's World Cup prediction time. I have France beating England in the final. As for Scotland, the loss of Gilmour can't be overstated. I have them missing out on automatic qualification for the last 32 but scraping through as one of the best third-placed teams, only to be beaten by Germany.

We have a wasabi plant in the garden. I just took a look at it post-sunset and it's quite a hit with the local slug and snail population. I'm now trying to work out whether it's alluring these munchers to the garden or acting as a sacrificial plant upon which they can satiate themselves. Stay or go?

The new Boards of Canada album is so rich, both thematically and in terms of sound palette. It's an album of depth, weight and contrast. There's a mist of menace, which, although punctured regularly by pretty shards of colourful harmony, never departs long enough to allow a sense of ease to settle.

It's a year for musical comebacks and joining the party are Broken Social Scene, with their first LP in nearly a decade. It's a lush dream-pop affair that picks up where 2017's Hug of Thunder left off. They're a different band to that which released You Forgot It... but it's nice to have them back.

It's great to see Sindarov play such bold, attacking chess in the Candidates. He absolutely steam rollers Pragg in this game, and with the black pieces too. Also, Sindarov was my pick at the start of the tournament, so these performances make me feel like I know what I'm talking about.
