Dream: "Self driving cars will have to make split second moral decisions!" Reality: Too fucking stupid to get out of the trash truck's way. It sat there until a remote operator grabbed it and moved it.

Had to explain Ed Sheeran to the partner. So.... so bland. Coupla Big Freedia tracks was sufficient antidote.

I've started thinking of LLM tools as a really advanced scripting language. It's kind of working for me. Every place I'm running into them, professionally and such, it maps nicely.

Okay, wait a sec, Neuromancer may still hold up because it's actually more Noir than Cyberpunk.

The major maps do this for all sorts of countries all the time, so it's not that big a surprise. But if Google catches a few strays over this, fine with me.

LLMs are very good at pulling engineers down the rabbit hole. I feel bad for managers who don't understand their systems well enough to pull them back out.

This picture is triggering. I've spent many days in a chair like that (it's for observers) staring at the backs of voters.

A thing that gives me pause about AI is when you search for something specific and technical about the technology it's surrounded by a barrage of noisy nonsense. That's odd.

Get in losers, we're marking a bunch of LinkedIn "AI Slop".

The data center opposition is fascinating. My attitude, as someone in tech, is sort of anti-data center. There's lots of stuff good about the internet, but we're living in the internet's world now and it kinda sucks. So why not. Stop building data centers. Let's try that.

I often get an error when I try to use some random AI add-in. It might be an extension of my power over skateboarders. No skateboarder can land a trick in my presence. I've never seen one succeed in person and suspect I never will.

It's wild to me how anti-historical people are. "If Ford had asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse." Yeah, no. There were cars around, but they were expensive. Ford was one of a number trying to make them cheaper. He was just successful at it.

A rent freeze on rent control units is a pretty mundane technocratic solution.... which means a lot to the people affected, of course. But it's relatively small. Nonetheless, they made the promise, delivered on it and are now making a big deal about it. Brilliant.

Sat next to a couple of AI employees at dinner. I wanted to give them advice they wouldn't listen to. "Save most of your windfall. This probably won't happen again for you." "If you need a next job, it won't net you as much. Get used to that idea now." "If you can't keep up, make cheaper friends."

Here’s what Saikat Chakrabarti got wrong about S.F. in his bid to replace Nancy Pelosi

Hey man, I respect your love of Tom Steyer. But I'm not voting for someone who's first elective office would be governor. He says good words, but we have no idea how he'd govern or if he even could. And who knows what the skeletons are. Run for dog catcher, my man. Then we'll talk.
