I'm not a biographer, but if we look all the way back to 1972 that's a heck of a lot of history. Maybe take the 1994 crime bill as a low point for liberalism. I'd say he shifted right with the party to that undistinguished point. Then back to the left in the 2000's.

It's much worse, of course. But even if you are involved it can be hard to get a read on your kid's current level of education. There's some grade inflation, sure, but it's more like a river moving toward graduation. You can not know a student is drowning for far too long.

I was witness to a natural experiment like this with a small public school around 12 years ago. It's chaos. You need teachers and staff with experience to handle the special needs kids. If not, they dominate the space and bring everyone with them. But hey, fuck charters. They deserve it.
