Every year, I make a Christmas/winter playlist in place of Christmas cards, and a few years ago, I came across this: one of the saddest and most beautiful winter ballads I've ever heard. It's far too sad for playlists. But have a listen here. It's incredible. open.spotify.com/track/6kMYDM...

“I can’t say I suddenly regretted never having hiked the Inca Trail, more that I now see more beauty in ordinary things than I could have imagined, and feel more than ever that the small things in life – the connections we make and care we take with each other – are the big things really.”

You don't always have to have an instant connection with a band. Took me a little while to get into Fontaines D.C. but fully connected now. Just arrived in Cardiff, very excited for tonights gig.

This is heartbreaking. The Moon has been such an important part of the Cardiff music scene. Everything an independent venue needs to be. Thoughts are with all the staff at this time. Warnings have been put to the government so many times. More needs to be done to protect the heartbeat of music.

This feels a bit like a bereavement. Keep thinking "...but I was only there on Monday, how can it have shut down?". Liz and the team are absolute heroes for keeping it going over the last seven years. How much more relentless crushing of everything small and beautiful does Cardiff have to suck up?
