We need to talk about the separatists selling out our city and province. MAGA operatives came to Calgary to help carve up our country. Meanwhile, separatist leaders went to Washington promising our water, our oil, and our land. If you want to live in the United States, move to the United States.

For sure, but this is a self-inflicted wound as he had no need to call a snap election. It was opportunistic and a gamble. And of course all politicians do this, but it would be a shame if this resulted in a conservative victory

Jen Gerson with more truth bombs: “Voting to leave is not sending a message to Ottawa. It’s sending a message to Washington.” “The message is this: Canada is weak, regionally divided, and can be turned on itself for America’s benefit. Ultimately, that message hurts all of us, including Albertans.”

Jen Gerson: Oh, so you want to send Ottawa a message, eh?
Vote to stay and send Washington the right message. Namely, don’t fuck with us.

I can't get over the fact that he thinks daylight savings is bad because you have to climb up "high and dangerous steeples" to change the clocks. Like a fire engine full of cats has to go out and they climb the ladder like in a Richard Scarry drawing

“When Alberta separatist leaders went to to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province’s resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.” I’ll be looking up ‘treason’ today. 🤬

the *approach* taken by the far-left and far-right is similar. resorting to hyperbole, seeing the world as black-and-white, the utter confidence in their own views and an inability to understand others' (and to dismiss it)

i drove around the Alberta countryside looking for fall colours. this is from one of my fave spots: a poplar plantation 8 km west of Andrew. i love the colours, the patterns created by the trees and by the farmer wringing out every square metre of available land to grow canola
a top-down view from a drone, showing the fall colours (green, yellow, orange) of a plantation farm and the curved lines of swathed canola

i wish i could share your optimism. yeah, even if the pipeline is approved and financed, it still needs to be filled with bitumen. but AFAIK Carney has not mentioned that angle. i'm betting that he and Smith will announce public funding or guarantees to get the O&G companies to step up and commit

you're made some good points that have caused me to reflect and do some reading on these orcas i wouldn't compare the loss of a local population of orcas to the loss of a group of humans; still, we should do what we can to protect them. within reason, of course, we can't stop all ship movements
