Several elm leaves at the end of a twig. The leaves are turning brown at the edges, some yellow spots in the centers of some of the leaves. Fungus and insect damage shows brown spots.

#SilentSunday
A long-view of the Badlands, a landscape composed of a plateau and eroded hills and valleys. In the distance, the Little Missouri River braids around a bend. Floodplain forests of yellow (mostly green ash turning color) and green (mostly cottonwood) cover the valley and eroded draws. In the foreground, an eroded hill showing layers of clays and dark lignite. I think the photo feels quiet and serene.

Eroded bentonite in the rain the Badlands North Dakota, USA #TextureTuesday #Badlands #LandscapePhotography #Geomorphology
A highly eroded layer of bentonite clay forms deeply incised valley shapes off a “ridge top” that is divided into three parts. At the bottom of the frame is a small rivulet of water carrying clay particles that have eroded off the clay. The shape is very organic looking with rounded edges and deep crevasses.

#SilentSunday
A photo shot in the Badlands of North Dakota, USA. The photo shows a series of eroded draws and gullies slanting downward toward the left of the frame. In each draw are short trees and bushes displaying early fall colors -- yellows, light green, and orange-red. Between each draw are hilltops where only grasses and sagebrush grow. These are shaded orange and beige and light greenish gray, for the sage.

Black-and-white analog photograph of a small boat floating on calm water at sunset. Its dark, almost featureless silhouette occupies the lower part of the frame, standing out strongly against the lighter surroundings. A chain hangs from the bow, while the boat’s reflection softly dissolves across the gently rippled surface.
In the distance, a dark line of low hills stretches along the horizon, above which the sky fades through subtle shades of gray. A small, dimmed sun hangs low near the horizon, casting a narrow vertical trail of light across the water and drawing the eye deeper into the scene. The analog grain and soft tonal transitions give the image a melancholic, almost timeless quality. The composition feels quiet and restrained, built around stillness, space, and the contrast between the heavy darkness of the boat and the luminous water and sky. The whole scene feels like a moment suspended just before dusk.
