You don't need to be a Lib Dem to see this is a bit bonkers. Holding onto 1 in 10 seats in parliament and becoming the party with the most councillors in the UK is a bigger achievement than roiling up people at rallies, fomenting outrage, or...doing whatever Kemi is doing.

I'm biased obv but this seems insane. Polanski/Greens get swathes of "coming force in Britpolitics" coverage but they're going to get at most 20-40 seats next time as a high watermark while the tone of Lib Dem coverage - holding 70ish MPs - seems to be "huh, look how stagnant they've become".

I'm kinda flabbergasted by all the articles going "mew mew the Lib Dems are irrelevant and in decline" when pretty much every Westminster poll shows LDs holding 70+ MPs while Lab/Tories lose 100+ seats and the Greens gain WOW a dozen or so. Oh, and they're now the biggest party in local government.

What are the Lib Dems for? They must champion localism to stay relevant in an age of single-issue politics | Simon Jenkins
Ed Davey’s party are the obvious candidates to push for the deeper local democracy the public is crying out for, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it?
The genuinely magical, lyrical final sequence of the Bob's Burgers episode "The Plight Before Christmas", featuring Philip Glass's Mishima String Quartet on xylophones. Really. Yet wonderful.

I confess I initially read that as Prokofiev stipulated all the double basses physically removed the top G string. Which would have been AMAZING

And Ustvolskaya. Who had no reason to score giant wooden boxes, piccolo and tuba trios, massed bassoons and double basses, and encourage solo pianist to slam their entire forearm into the keys...but did it because she Just Wanted To.

Lads: FOUR PIANOS AND EIGHT HARPS. DOUBLE BASSES WITH STRINGS MISSING. BELLS. Musically it's part film music, part grotesquerie, part official hymn, part circus polka. A gigantic mess, and a riveting one. And also: kind of grim.

I'm still fond of a gag you made on Twitter years before we worked together, which had the punchline "look it up on KikiDeedia". When I retweeted it a year or two later you were flabbergasted and replied "that's a good joke. I need to remember that".

Did I ever tell you about the early 80s episode of Wogan where - no word of a lie - Tippett is a guest alongside George Michael and at one point plucks GM's cowboy hat and puts it on? Glorious.

I don't want to raise hopes, and I'm definitely not a Labour voter, but to be fair, the current MP in charge of AI, Kanishka Narayan, is a thoughtful, smart guy and he takes his brief really seriously; I certainly don't think he exists to be a cheerleader. Hoping he gets the role.

I recently went to the French consulate to get my daughter's done (we're dual nationals). Showing my own passport as ID, the guy said "oh, you know yours is expiring in December", to which I said "ah, yeah, I spotted that, never mind, I'll come back". "Don't be silly" he says, "I'll sort that now"

James's point about models and speed is really pertinent. I use ChatGPT pretty exclusively on 5.5 Thinking, and use the photo and voice tools a lot. It's a staggeringly useful realtime research tool. I'm not particularly interested in what it can create, but what it assists in is game-changing.
