The machine's answer to hard ground is a bigger plow. Nature's answer is a gentle rain.

Benefit of a Unified Life: the people I love, things I love, and things I do largely coincide: others say “I'm going to work”; I say “I'm going to live.”

There is no stronger indicator of a seriously flawed urban code than buffer requirements. Excellent codes encourage buildings and their landscapes to be good neighbors, not artifacts that must hide their ugliness.

WATCH: The BEST public art is MORE than just art — it’s functional too. This really smart integrated art in a recent project in central OSLO draws you in, supports both place-making and way-finding, and reveals all the mid-block nooks and crannies that you might NEVER know about without that art!

This isn't a hypothetical data center. This is the University of Alabama's nearly-complete High-Performance Computing Center. Don't yet know its noise level, but they don't have to be ugly, and can be good neighbors to the buildings around them.

Clothes they can grow into. It won't be long. And they won't grow out of a high chair nearly as fast. Wood ones are still available, and with all the plastics they'll touch frequently growing up, that's one less item.

We need raised crosswalks everywhere. A level crossing prioritizes human movement and accessibility, while the physical rise acts as forced friction, demanding speed compliance from motorists. We must stop relying on signs and start relying on physical design.

Most restaurants take your drink order, then your app order, then your main course order, so the appetizer is usually the first thing you eat.

Found a possible replacement for Geotag Photos Pro: I have a Nikon Z7ii, so Nikon Snapbridge might do what I need; anyone know anything about it?

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Sadly, no. The only way I know to do that is add a GPS module where the flash usually goes but in my experience those have a very high fail rate.

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Apple's App Store has dozens of apps, but they're really complex or expensive & many are based on photos taken on your phone, but the iPhone automatically geotags already, so that's useless. So I'm looking for a system based on shooting with a DSLR or mirrorless camera. Any thoughts?

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Does anyone know of a geotagging system that works as simply as this one did? Nikon's GPS module that attaches on top of the camera never tagged more than about half the images, which is basically useless & other similar apps, but their failure rates were high, too, but not Geotag Photos Pro.

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Sadly, something broke it very recently. The iPhone version is still working because I can see the trips in History on my phone, so it must have been a recent MacOS update that broke the laptop version that does the actual geotagging.

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Replacement? Geotag Photos Pro is insanely simple: just start a trip on the iPhone version of the app and it sets your location frequently. After the shoot, the desktop version of the app interpolates the location based on the the recorded data on the phone, which is uploaded to their cloud.

A prevailing attitude is "I won't live anywhere more than 7-10 years; why should I care about a house that lasts for a hundred years? This results in buying cheap junk thrown up quick that will fall apart in a few years. Many individual throwaway choices make a throwaway city.

Straw man. Highway speeds aren’t the big issue; how many people do you see walking on a highway in the countryside? The big issue is speeding in the city, which gets people killed and maimed for life.

Yet you’ve gone silent on 25 mph posted speed where people far too often speed closer to 40, which is deadly most of the time.

Steve Mouzon @stevemouzon.bsky.social · 13/12/2025
A highway? Try a residential street with a 25 mph speed limit which nobody obeys. 40 mph speeds are common there, resulting in death or lifelong injuries.
