Prime Minister Mark Carney said it best today: Canada will not trade away its language, culture, or sovereignty for a bad deal. America has changed, and its signature is increasingly written in pencil. Time to stand firm, match the tariffs dollar-for-dollar, and protect who we are.

If reports of the deal Trump extracted from Canada are true, I’m disgusted. I’d rather endure U.S. tariffs than see Canada bow to American pressure. Our dignity today. Our sovereignty tomorrow. Why is North Korea now a better friend to the U.S. than Canada?

A beach by a lake in the mountains. Blue sky, trees, pretty water. In the foreground there are the remnants of a tree trunk on its side. Roots are exposed. There are two prominent branches at 90 degrees that have another 90 degree turn in each direction to meet back up in what appears to be a natural rectanglish shape.

President of MIT not mincing words today in @statnews.com www.statnews.com/2026/05/27/s...
So let me say it as clearly as I can: Without basic scientific research, supported by the kind of farsighted public investment that allows large-scale, undirected, curiosity-driven inquiry, the scientific pipeline will run dry.
In daily life, people may not feel the effects right away, or even in 10 years. But we will feel it. And when someone we love needs therapies that could have emerged but didn't or when other countries now
investing in science can launch new science-based industries or run their societies on vast resources of fusion energy or reap the benefits of quantum computing power or advanced medical breakthroughs, America will wish it sustained its leadership in scientific research here and now.
Sally Kornbluth is the president of MIT.

Photo of two kittens, which seemed to have been plopped inside tin cans on a porch outside in the sun. One is a white and ginger tabby. The other is white and black tuxedo. One of the cans is unlabeled, on the other you can make out the word dromedary which was a brand that made a popular canned date bread for decades.

The government wants to Huawei any company that pursues a radical woke ideology like "no domestic mass surveillance" except it has no legal basis to do so and its rules for compliance are gobbledygook www.wired.com/story/anthro...
In its Friday blog post, Anthropic said a supply chain risk designation, under the authority 10 USC 3252, only applies to Department of Defense contracts directly with suppliers, and doesn’t cover how contractors use its Claude AI software to serve other customers.

Three experts in federal contracts say it’s impossible at this point to determine which Anthropic customers, if any, must now cut ties with the company. Hegseth’s announcement “is not mired in any law we can divine right now,” says Alex Major, a partner at the law firm McCarter & English, which works with tech companies.
