Getting told there are 4 unreleased tracks of the Songs In The Key Of Life sessions is like being given the keys to a big beautiful room where everything good in the world lies waiting for you. I’m just so stupidly happily listening to these tracks from this beautiful genius. I adore Stevie ♥️

We dropped my son off to start his second year at Warwick Uni today. Bittersweet, but nowhere near as bad as last year. London traffic on the way home does a great job of grinding you so hard that every possible emotion is denied space in your soul. I will miss him.

I’ve been reading a book by a new author and at one point they identify that the real magic in a guitar player’s feel is all in the *right hand* (for a right handed player of course)… I nearly jumped for joy as I have always thought this and will in fact die on that hill.

Went to see my old pal Roger Eno in concert tonight at Union Chapel. Sublime. In a strange twist I also managed to win his sandals and socks in an audience auction.

Just got my 1980s Citizen “Ana Digi Temp” watch back from the jewellers with a new battery. I have come to a local cafe to trawl through the epic Japanese English instructions on how to reset all the displays and dials 😂
A silver 1980s Citizen “ana digi temp” watchInstructions:

‹Setting Time>
(1) Press and hold button ® for 2 seconds or more while in normal Time display. The "Seconds" will start flashing, indicating that the watch is in adjustment mode.
(2)
Each press on button ® in adjustment mode changes flashing section in the order of [Second →
Minute → Hour → 12-hour/24-hour
→ Analog 1 adjustment → Analog
2 adjustment].
(3)
Press button A to adjust flashing section. (Press and hold button for rapid advancement.)

When did Waze get so utterly shit? Diverted via a closed road to a closed motorway FFS. Spent half the fucking night driving down pitch black country lanes. Clueless bastard of a thing - it used to be good, didn’t it? I’d have got home quicker following a map of Middle Earth.

Who *doesn’t* need to go to a games arcade that has classics like “Frenzied Dog Attack”, “Divorce”, “Dead or Bad” and of course “Meat or Pet” A very fun evening at Novelty Automation in London. I love that a place like this can exist in 2026.
Alt text: A tall wire-mesh cage arcade machine with a metal sign reading "TEST YOUR NERVE" mounted above it in pink/red lettering. Inside the cage is a snarling animatronic dog with glowing red eyes and bared teeth, facing forward as if guarding a red push-button. A red sign on the front reads "INSERT COINS / PUT HAND IN CAGE / PUSH BUTTON FOR AS LONG AS YOU DARE."Alt text: A coin-operated mechanical arcade machine titled "DIVORCE" in red neon-style letters. Behind glass, two wooden puppet figures — a woman in an orange top with a yellow bob haircut on the left, and a man in a beige shirt with a scowling expression on the right — stand holding a small model house with a cracked wall between them. Visible mechanical gears, chains, and levers sit beneath the figures. A printed sign reads "DIVORCE INSTRUCTIONS: Part with cash (insert coins) / Divorce proceedings start when bell rings / Turn handwheel to separate from your partner / When you see red, push lever for surge of rage / Continue until one partner separates completely." Two "SEPARATION (Degrees of Freedom)" dials (0–100%) flank the scene, along with a "TIME SPENT DIVORCING" gauge and hand-crank wheels at the base.Alt text: A wooden arcade machine titled "DEAD or BAD" in glowing green cutout lettering. Two illuminated panels below read "KEEP GRANNY WARM" and "SAVE THE PLANET," each above a dial gauge — one labeled "Granny's Temperature" (Cold to Hot) and one labeled "Carbon Footprint" (Low to High). Below is a diorama of a hunched wooden granny figure sitting in a yellow armchair in a small room with a lamp, a window showing a night sky, and an electric bar heater glowing on the red floor. A red hand-crank at the bottom has a sign reading "Turn handle to generate green electricity and keep granny warm through a cold night." Shelves of miscellaneous objects are visible through a glass panel to the right.Alt text: A tall olive-green arcade machine titled "PET OR MEAT" at the bottom in red lettering. It features a large illuminated spinner wheel labeled alternately "PET" and "MEAT" around its rim, with a gold arrow pointer, above a red push-button labeled "SETTLE LAMB'S FATE." Below, a lit diorama shows a wooden family of four figures (a man, woman, girl, and boy) standing with a small toy lamb. Decorative silhouettes of leaping lambs and cuts of meat cover the green panel background. A partly obscured instruction panel is visible on the left. To the right, an adjacent machine with red coiled springs and a red rubber glove is partially visible, displaying text about checking for "suspicious bulges."

I wouldn’t claim to be a diehard Nick Cave fan. I like him and have a few albums. But the gig at Preston Park last night was one of the best I’ve ever seen. A band playing as one being, Nick like a cross between God and the devil, the best outdoor sound imaginable - all shared with my best friends ♥️

I had this guitar made for me in the 90s by Ernie, one of the guys that worked in the Lowden factory. It’s a friend’s son’s 18th today. He’s so into music and he fell in love with it, so today I’ll give it to him so it can have another life. Farewell old friend ♥️
A handmade electric guitar - 3/4 size, with a dark rosewood fretboard, and flamed maple top, 2 humbucker pickups, black hardware. It has a small E as the makers mark on the headstock.

I gave artisanal crisps a chance, because they’re crisps. But I am done with these crackpot flavours now. “Gravel steamed wildebeest and okra”. “Startled jellyfish with air”. “Pancake and moss”. “Thoughts of turnip”. “Boastful earwig on a bible”. Enough is enough.

I think David Mitchell’s ongoing bamboozlement by Bob Mortimer on “Would I Lie to You” might be my favourite on-screen relationship of all time. Sometimes I can’t breathe for laughing. I have simply no words that communicate what a treasure Bob Mortimer is.

How does anyone manage to spend any time on X these days? I have a burner account that I set up with no interests or follows, and the narrative it dumps on my timeline is beyond toxic. Such a shame. Twitter was so much fun once. Same can be said of the internet I guess.

My beloved James Trussart rusty Steel Deville. In 2004 I called James and said “can you make me a guitar that looks like an old piece of metal from a shipyard?” I sent him a photo of a metal sheet from Harland & Wolff dry dock in Belfast and 6 months later this guitar arrived. Still love it 🤘♥️
