All that classic sci-fi about robot civil rights meant well, but LOL

There's this weird thing where two EDs of The Nightlight (me and Kurtiss Partnow [née Hare]) separately moved to Seattle and volunteered at NWFF, and then NWFF's ED at the time (Saelyx Finna) moved to Akron and ended up volunteering/consulting at The Nightlight.

As pointed out in the piece, your texts to anyone using this are being scraped. Bottom line, just don't use a computer to communicate.

Shoutout to the people who were seated behind me and had a huge emotional reaction to FWWM at the Music Box. One said through sobs, “I feel like I just saw it for the first time” and that’s the power of a big screen, baby

Best joke in Primetime for me was Hansen answering the phone saying “Chris Hansen here” to his own wife

steve @stevefelix.com · 26/09/2026
Predators was a more comprehensive indictment of Hansen and vigilante content, but Primetime offers a deeper theory of the psyche. Has anyone mentioned how good every performance is??

A noted film critic told me we were lucky to be alive while Louie was airing and I agreed. But as with Buffy I'm not bothering to check whether it holds up

@wormsgreenrealm.bsky.social mentioned America To Me the other day and that should probably make it even though I forgot about it. John Wilson edged out. Louie sadly disqualified.

"Sources are credited" dubious enough, but obviously not on Instagram where the entire audience is
How we use AI

We are open about this because readers deserve to know. Some stories on Occupy Cinema are drafted with the help of AI writing tools. The starting material is public reporting from established outlets, industry data, and our own notes and social posts. Sources are credited inside each story, and where a figure or claim comes from another outlet we say so.

Starting going past the hits with Robert Altman's A WEDDING last night. No joke lands for a full hour, then it cooks for a bit, then fizzles. Despite a fine ensemble it feels more scripted and robotically cut on attempted laugh lines than say, NASHVILLE.
