steveaich.bsky.social @steveaich.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Eating 50g/day of processed meat has a cancer-risk effect broadly comparable in absolute terms to regularly drinking a small amount of alcohol — around a 1 percentage-point lifetime increase — not remotely comparable to smoking. 000
steveaich.bsky.social @steveaich.bsky.social · 06/10/2026That's a BS comparison. 50g/day processed meat (~2 rashers) raises bowel-cancer risk ~18% relatively: Absolute risk changes from 5.6%→6.6% over lifetime. Current smoking raises lung-cancer risk ~9-fold (900%); absolute risk goes from 0.4%→15%. 110

steveaich.bsky.social @steveaich.bsky.social · 29/09/2026What happened to grown up collaborative politics? The triple lock was a great LibDem policy, it's raised pension levels and taken 1000's out of poverty. But, it can't be retained forever. Replacing it with a policy which maintains the current level makes sense. 000
